  I stopped buying packs in 1992 and decided to let others gamble on the unknown and have been focusing on buying or trading for exactly what I want instead.  I have been checking the shelves whenever I got to the stores and there is never any packs to buy anyway.  I went to Walmart and much to my surprise there was a 2021 series 1 baseball pack in stock.  I took that as a sign that I had to buy it.  I see that it says on the pack that there are 16 cards with a disclaimer "Packs with a special insert may contain only 9 - 14 cards".  I started thinking about the science on this one.  Did topps make sure that the special inserts were exactly the same thickness and weight as whatever cards are missing because they are in the pack?   It seems that would have to be the case or anyone could measure and/or weigh the packs to determine if they contained an insert.  Sorry if this is obvious to others but I have been out of the pack pulling game since all of these inserts were even a thing.

You make a good point and it's actually very true. In recent years however they have added in blank filler cards to counter people looking for pack thinkness and weight. It doesn't make all packs and/or boxes the same weight but they have very little difference. Ive thought about bringing a weight in to test boxes that's for sure lol.

It has been common for years for people to weigh packs at the store, it is one of the "pack searching" methods everyone hates. As a matter of fact, there is a scale at the checkout, you can weigh them there!
