Over the past couple years I've been spending the majority of my "TCDB-time" working with gaming sets. It started when I decided to catalog my kids' Pokemon collection and really kicked into high gear when my oldest son introduced me to Magic the Gathering.
In that time I've seen a lot of great effort from TCDB members to make the gaming category as complete and accurate as any other on TCDB. I've also seen a lot of mistakes (and have made many myself) that could have been avoided with a little research before action was taken.
I would like to share a few resources that I have found useful for the "Big Three" Trading Card Game (TCG) franchises. These sites probably address 90% of any questions that could arise and contain the most accurate and complete checklists and product information. (IMHO)
Pokemon:
Bulbapedia - "Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia about Pokémon to which anyone can contribute. Since its launch in February 2005, it has grown to become one of the largest Pokémon resources on the internet. As part of Bulbagarden, this ever-growing wiki is supported by Bulbanews, Bulbagarden Archives, and the Bulbagarden forums."
Yu-Gi-Oh!:
Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki - "The Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki is a free repository on all aspects of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise that anyone can edit. We've been around since May 26, 2005 — and in that time we've assembled a lot of information about the cards and other aspects of the Yu-Gi-Oh! phenomenon. Visit the news section for dates of upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG & OCG product releases, as well as anime air dates and manga book release dates."
Magic the Gathering:
- MTG Wiki - "MTG Wiki is a free, open-content encyclopaedia that anyone can edit."
- Scryfall - "Scryfall currently indexes official Magic cards that someone could obtain, collect, or feasibly build with for competitive or casual formats."
My two-cents is worth slightly more than a penny.
