We rarely ever lose power for more than a couple of hours or so, even living way out in the country. They got it back on this time even faster than they expected, nearly 4 hours earlier than predicted. The last time I was without power for more than a few hours was when Hurricane Michael hit in 2018. It was still a very strong Tropical Storm when it made it all the way to NC from FL. We had no power for over 3 days. Usually the power goes out here b/c a car going way too fast wiped out a power pole or the tension lines for a pole OR a tree took out some lines during a thunderstorm. Those isolated issues get taken care of pretty quickly.
I'm glad we didn't get as cold or for as long as the folks down in TX (including my cousin and his family in Dallas). We never had water pipe issues here or even a chance of that, but without power means we have no running water anyway. But the overflow creek from the pond was flowing steadily the whole time the power was out. So I'd just drop a bucket in there and carry the water inside to flush the toilets when needed. We had plenty of drinking water, but not enough to use for flushing toilets. Ice storms aren't that common here, but we still know how to be prepared for them. I'd have rather had inches of snow though!
