Baskin Robins has 31 flavors. I think some of the card companies put out more parallels than that.

Not just base sets...every flipping insert has tons of coloured parallels to it! Ridiculous!

Right, and the number of different insert sets have expanded in recent years as well.

Since I do not buy new boxes it does not affect my collection much, but does make the list too long when trying to find the one to select to add the one card I have...

It's been frustrating with the recent increase of Prizm parallels in the Prizm releases. 2019-20 Prizm NBA has 40 parallels. Several colors have four to five different types of parallels.

Boy have times changed!!!     This time period will be know as Parallel era

There as a time when the player had to earn his way to get a card.   Now I have players that have never played a game in NFL with more cards then some HOFers.  Plus 90% of the cards are Autos.

I started to collect hockey now and it is nice how there are way fewer parallels than in Topps baseball sets. I normally just keep the Cardinals ones and list the rest to trade for more Cardinals parallels.

From an NBA standpoint Imactually find it is the opposite; often the more obscure players get few cards especially relative to HOF guys from the 80s and 90s who usually have more cards released per year now than they did in their playing days.

Throw in most/a lot of these cards are short numbered autos as you mention or ridiculous parallels and I find it a player collector nightmare personally.

I don't have any real interest in many of the modern releases but then my compulsion to buy as many PC Cards as possible kicks in and I still feel I need to acquire them!

Not only are the parallels exploding but you now have the same card in multiple different releases.  For instance, if you collected a Topps base card this year it would also show up in Topps Mini, Topps Chrome, Topps 3D, Topps UK, Topps Chrome Sapphire, Topps Holiday.  I might even be missing some.  I feel bad for all those rainbow collectors.  It's impossible to keep up.

I would love to buy some packs of that soccer set and see some of the different parallels.

Just be glad you dont have to buy several different brands of cigarettes to get all the T206 cards with every different possible back for each player.  And only one card per pack.  Talk about making things difficult for collectors!
