Hello,
I'm seeking some advice for dviding different types of cards in a box. I have a handful of boxes full of the cards I've listed for trade. Most of thse boxes have a 20-30 cards from a specific set, and it's frustrating trying to divide different set in a way that is both safe for the cards and sturdy enough to avoid frequent opening and closing of the box. The boxes are the standard white folding boxes.
Any have any advice?
Let me know.
Thanks,
Joe

I store all my traders in 3,200 (4 row) boxes. I splurged and got the BCW card dividers and marked all the sets. But that's not really necessary, a simple piece of thick paper will do. However, as the number of traders you have grow, the key is keeping them organized so you can find them quickly to complete trades. My advice is to store the cards to same way the site's "trade wizard" lists them:
- Alphabetical by sport (baseball, basketball, football, etc.)
- By year, oldest to newest
- Alphabetical by set name (Bowman, Donruss, Fleer, etc.)
- Card number (with inserts and parallel at the end of each set
I number each box and use a piece of paper to note which set is in each box. You'll find it's much easier to pull cards that way, especially for bigger trades.
Good luck,
DukeyDevil

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

I use the thick decoy cards as dividers. I use a marker to color the edge so it contrasts with the cards.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I use index cards and put the year and set on the cards. Requires trimming of the top and sides but you can cut a few at a time. Just leave them taller the cards so you can read it easily. If they slide around a penny sleeve, card saver, or top loader will firm them up also.

I do similar to randylaw but use cardboard from pop 12 packs or cereal boxes. We drink way too much pop at our house so I usually have plenty to cut up.

I use index cards for my duplicates, as well. However, I only sort by team. If you are using a method where the sections are only a few cards thick, this may not be the best idea for you

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have some dividers coming tomorrow now. Should solve a lot of my organization problems. My reorganization project is going along well. Can't wait to get back to trading in the new year.
