A quick question for the hobby veterans who fondly, or still do, trim wx box cards. As I try to complete the runs of the late-80/early-90s sets for these I have acquired a few where the trimming wasn't close cut. I'm thinking of trimming them down to get to standard/as-intended size. I also have a couple 2-panel ones (a 4-panel that was cut in half...no not lookig to list). Because its 2 panel I'm thinking of splitting into single cards. What has seemed to be the best method to do this without destroying the card? Thanks for the input.

All my box bottoms/panels can be trimmed. I have a razor sharp trimmer but do not trim to close to the cards edges, just enough to get the raggy cardboard trimmed off. FYI, bought mine on Amazon, great tool.

I would say IF you are going to trim down any box cards, I would use a VERY sharp X-acto or box cutter. I have all my boxes from the 80's just broken down as flat as they will go and stored that way. They aren't in a binder or anything like that, but do fit nicely in a comic bag and board for protection. Along with that you can get comic boxes that fit the bag and boards well, so makes for easier and cleaner storage

PSA has a pretty expanded section on hand cut cards: https://www.psacard.com/resources/gradingstandards#cards
Not sure if it helps with discussion, but they prefer a sliver of extra border.

Thanks all. Yeah, I don't mind a small sliver, but a couple I have more resemble an early 50s Topps card with the amount of extra they left on. So basically, a realy sharp knive, really flat and stable surface and very steady hands

Or a paper cutter with a fresh blade.

If you use the sharp exacto knife, use it with a straight edge. Press firmly on the straight edge and let it guide the knife. And don't do it on your wife's favorite piece of furniture.

My Paper Cutter is the best. Holds the cardboard down, lines it up, even measures, and a supply of sharp blades. Also saves my fingers. !
