Let me preface this by saying that I am not a nut.
And I don't get to the forums that often except to complain about something inconsequential, so maybe this idea has been discussed.
Have we ever thought of mass destroying the over-produced sets of the 80s/90s in an effort to drive the scarcity up, and therefore rebalance the market? They could be recycled into insulation. Maybe topps could recycle the junk era stuff and turn it into an actual "green" parallel. Vlad Jrs made out of Vlad Srs, that would be fun, right Topps? They've got to be short on ideas at this point.
Anyway, back to our basements and man caves. Just curious.

I suggested that a while back. My idea was based on a Scrooge McDuck comic book where he bought up every 1918 quarter and dumped them in the ocean except for one.

First sign that you are a nut is denying that you are a nut.

So if you read through RTD87's blog that is one of his goals in life. He held a large bonfire of carss just from those years. It was so he didnt have to move them, but also to help reduce the inventory on this world.

A loner? That or someone worth knowing.
Anyway, maybe it's time for a bonfire again.

I've sometimes thought about this myself, but on a smaller scale when considering my John Olerud collection. If I tried to buy up as many copies as I could of, say, his 1990 Upper Deck RC, would it be possible to actually influence the card's scarcity and thus increase it's perceived value? Probably not, since even if I purchased every copy that's currently for sale, the situation would still be that everybody who wants a copy probably has a copy and all I would have done was bought everyone's dupes.

I do remember seeing a TV special on a guy who found a huge lot (like hundreds) of basically gem cards from the early 1900s and he was advised to release them one-by-one to the market, and I can't remember what happened, but I think his family got dollar signs in their eyes, and were like "screw it, set it off," and just ran em all out there at once, and they got a minute fraction (like, pennies on the Franklin) of what they would have if they were patient. So one person can influence the market...
