Topps
Upper Deck
Fleer
Donruss
I agree with nyygregory, I would include Score and rank them third as well.

Upper deck>topps>donruss>fleer
i always thought of upper deck as a more expensive brand so I guess I still feel that kind of way and like how they look. Topps was always solid I liked the gold parallels when they came out. Donruss barely edged out fleer for third as I liked the base cards more and diamond kings/rated rookies were always cool as a kid. Fleer well the only thing really I thought was decent was they seemed to lean into inserts a little more in the 90s than the other 3.

Yes, Score should be included.
Topps - The best
Score - Good designs
Upper Deck - Great Photos
Donruss - Cheap and available somewhat decent
Fleer - Cheap and available just gross.

If you're talking 1990s only, then
- Fleer
- Topps
- Upper Deck
I don't really have a handle on Donruss as they didn't produce NBA cards or non-sports to any large degree and I don't know enough about hockey yet.
If we are talking all time, Topps would have to be first, because they made most of my favorite Non-Sports sets, and were the only producer of NBA cards from 1969-81. But not if we are discussing 1990s only. That decade was ruled by Fleer- and 1996-97 Ultra is my favorite set ever.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. FYI: Score came out only 1 year before Upper Deck.
1988 Score - First set
1989 Upper Deck - First set

Billy, my friend, if we're talking 1990s, Fleer is last behind everyone simply because of the 1995 design, across all sports. I just...can't...quite...handle it. Maybe it's worse because I have a ton of them but that alone was enough to burn me!
I do kid, but not totally...

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Sentimental value is 99% of this hobby in my opinion. And you know I certainly respect your opinion. As long as it's sentimental

no sport was specified, I can see where basketball folks would differ from baseball in similar years...
for baseball in 80s-90s mine would be:
Topps
Fleer
Upper Deck
Donruss
(score would be 3rd if it was a 5 company list)
mark
