Last weekend, at my local card show I bought a 5,000 count monster box packed with 1977-1981 Topps baseball cards for just $40. No bad at less than a penny a card and their condition is fantastic. I hope to have them all available for trade in the coming weeks once I get them in the system.
Did anyone else find something special at their local show?

I've bought cards before for like $2 that turned out to book at like $50 or more. I see things, and just by looking at them I know they're worth considerably more than they're asking, so I usually just buy them. Some dealers just wanna sell everything cheap just to get rid of it. If there aren't any big-name stars, it's considered junk basically. I'm always happy to take what they don't want for cheap!

And that's why I'd rather build my vintage sets through card shows instead of through eBay. I've nearly completed my 70-73 run solely through card shows because I have a handful of dealers that aren't looking for top dollar, they are looking to move product. When I see something 1/2 off "book" and then the dealer takes even more off who can resist. Have as show thhis weekend, big ticket cards o nthe list still, let's see what damage I can do.

Sweet! I would be interested in my favorite Brewers cards from that purchase.

A long time ago, i found a Rickey Henderson Rookie card, 1980 Topps in a commons box. More recently, i found a 1989 Fleer FF Billy Ripken and a 1986 Topps Traded Jose Canseco for $1 each.

I recently bought about 50,000 assorted (mostly junk wax era) baseball cards for under $200; maybe someday I'll get them sorted, listed, etc.

I haven't been to a card show since I was a teenager in the 1990s, but these stories are making me think I might be missing out.

I've recently returned to my hobby after my college-age child finally 'released' the room she had in the house. How might I find reputable local card shows...forgive the dinosaur..its been 'more than a few decades' since I did this....still working through 40,000-ish cards and I had forgotten what fun it is.....
