I do not put 1/1 or cards numbered to 10 or less on my wantlist, but would add them if the price was right.  I find the numerous parallel sets quite maddening but have a handful of many from several years.  

Currently, 16,004 / 85,758 Royals.  Standing at 18.7%.  I would love to hit 25% but more likely 20% will be the ceiling.

I started collecting in the late 70's so I grew up trying to collect one of every card and build complete sets. Part of that never seems to die so I still work on sets. However, the reality of today is owning everything is never going to happen. Owning everything of my favorite teams and players is never going to happen. I am evolving. It no longer bothers me to not have something in my collection complete.

like Spaz first mentioned the 1/1's make it impossible to complete sets --UNLESS you're going for just base sets. I am a low number chaser, including 1/1's so when i can get them i will- thats just me. But other than the 1/1's, the Redemptions are the next big whammy. Some players don't even sign anymore. A MFR can have a rookie run of /199 and maybe 20 or so will actually get signed and mailed. 

Hell case in point- i had a Odell Beckham RC redemtion.. just this beginning of this year, Upper Deck wrote and told me he's not signing anymore ... well- that just blew. so congrads to those who were able to get it.

Some numbers on my Husker collection as I know of now:

797 players     242 players I have all of their cards   135 players I do not have any of they cards     17 players have over 300 cards each (3 of them have over 2,000 cards each)    654 players have less the 10 cards each.   There are over 2,013  1/1s    NOT counting printing plates.    I  have 687 Autos and  275 jerseys   (I'm buying Autos cheaper then jereys )

Looks like I have run most of the members out of Huskers that I need.

Yes the signing thing is going to be a "thing" in the next NHL CBA I think as players are starting to cop out in hockey too. They want thier share of the pie then dont just bring your fork, a pen is needed too!!

I can confirm that your wantlist is difficult.   I tried to pick something up at the LCS Saturday, but no success. 

I will take ANYTHING Phillies that I dont have.Currenty entering Yankees Topps team sets. For the trifecta, I will try all things Jeter, that I dont have.( need to enter the Jeters )
