I'm the Nebraska Cornhuskers Football collector here. Trying for any and all that I can find. The word is trying. Over many years of collecting every thing I have now only focusing on my Nebraska guys. My excel list has over 30,000 cards I have over 9,100 of them. I have a long way to go. I count a lot of odd ball stuff in my numbers. Schedules with pictures of players, Nebraska team sets, local release police sets, playing card sets, 1930's matchbooks you name it I will collect it if it is a card. (College or Pro uniforms). (except 8x10 photos) The old saying is Paint it red and a Nebraska fan will buy it.
Now retired I have time to find more cards. Problem now is I have less money to buy more cards. The 1/1's and high dollar cards are out of my range for buying. I have gotten a lot of real nice cards from trading. Problem now I do not buy boxes or packs any more so no new stuff.

I want to get as many different cards as possible. NBA, NHL, NASCAR are the main focus, and about half or a little over half of non-sports sets are wanted as well.
I used to be a set guy but since current sets are so lousy I've transitioned into my project of trying to get at least one card of every person to ever get one in the above three named sports. I'm down to under 300 for NBA and under 40 for NASCAR. I have not made the list yet for hockey but I am quite sure it's in the thousands, as the NHL has been getting cards since the 1920s.
Realistically, I know completing things are not possible. So I get whatever I can get and I'm happy with anything and everything I can get.
I would not be too surprised if I eventually have every New Jersey Nets base card ever made. The Database shows 3927 base Nets cards, but some of them are college cards, statistical leaders cards and multi-subject cards, none of which are actually Nets cards. I don't know if it's possible to filter and see how many of the base I have. Since the team is no longer in existance, it's an achievable goal. I believe I already have every base Nets cards from the 1970s to 1991-92, possibly later, already.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. My goal would be to Collect every Topps Set from the beginning of their existence in Baseball. Football or Basketall would be a bonus. Oddly I played High School Football, Basketball, and College Basketball. I’ve never stood behind the plate and looked at a pitch but go figure I’m a Baseball Card guy by over 80% I’m guessing. I like 40 Cards from 1975 and 200+ from 1977 to be Complete from 1975-2019 give or take a year or two here and there. I PC Teams and Players from all 3 with no definitive goals other than staying with Topps.

Even the wealthiest person on the planet could NEVER complete a team or player collection! Unless that player was someone minor who didn't get many total cards. A team is completely impossible due to all the 1/1's. Any collector acquiring a 1/1 for their team or player isn't getting rid of it.
I collect as much as possible of my players and teams from NFL, NASCAR and MLB. I won't get rid of any of those cards unless I have 2 of them OR I get a real good offer for a card that will help someone complete a set. But I'll never trade or sell a 1/1 card of someone I collect. For example, I've collected Ozzie Smith since the mid-80's and I've never acquired a 1/1 or even anything SN'd lower than 20. I still don't have 650 different cards of him! I've been collecting NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson since about 2003. I am about to pass 1400 cards of him, but I have several 1/1's and a few more AU's. I've traded some of my JJ AU's (no 1/1's) to help set collectors, but only for a JJ AU in return. I know I will never own all 6K+ JJ cards b/c of one specific collector who matches my habit. He has way more of the 1/1's than I do and I'll never be able to get those from him. And I have some 1/1's that he'll probably never get from me (even though he keeps trying).
I don't have a single 1/1 STL Cardinals card and I'm not going to chase them, but I'll take one if I can get it in trade. I'd certainly keep one if I pulled it from a pack/box. And then no other STL collector can acquire that card. I have only one Carolina Panthers 1/1 card and I don't even care for it much. He was a bust as a player they drafted, but it was my very 1st 1/1 card in my entire collection and I traded for it. So it will stay in my collection.
If you completely eliminate 1/1's from the conversation, you still can't collect everything! After 10 years of hunting, I'm still missing 9 of 17 SN100 parallel cards of Jimmie Johnson from 2009 Press Pass. It's just not possible to COMPLETE a collection of nearly anything in the card-world today. But I'll continue the hunt always b/c I love it.

You are right. That set is frustrating. I did the same and had a bunch of missing cards. I ended up completing it but I think I have some extras. I'll try to remember to check it out.

I am not a set guy. Any cards of Pittsburgh Penguins, Arsenal or people on my favorites list are going to be staying in my PC. After that I set no goals.

Wow, that is impressive. I feel like I'm doing good at over 4000 unique Buckeyes.
