I wanted to share my swap meet heroics last Wednesday and ask if there are any other heros out there. My beloved San Diego Chargers left me and now the stadium's main job is host of swap meets and used car tent sales. I must also point out the San Diego Fleet play there. I went to the game last Saturday and it was a great win for the Fleet. Getting back to the swap meet, how many of you can't pass up a carboard or plastic tote full of cards that are haphazardly thrown together with their corners getting crunched. I get mad and sad and have the overwelming urge everytime to save the cards from their cruel captors with the least amount of money possible. I saved three such boxes on Wednesday. Now I am putting them in a nice new monster box home where they deserve to be.

I am the same way. If I see cards at a flea market or antique store, I must liberate them. Especially if they are being abused. That's why I have over 50k baseball cards. I don't even like baseball.

Of course...... I was doing a show many years ago. The guy next to me just bought a case of cards from another dealer. As the show wound down, got really slow, my neighbor decided to break the case. He brought the large trash can behind his table....as he opened them 1 after another, he kept the inserts and threw everything else in the trashcan! Are you kiddin' me ? Well, the show just about ended, everybody was packing up, he left, and the trash can still sat there......YES I DID, dig and pull out every card thrown away!

Well played. Definitely went right to "Juke Box Hero" when I saw the thread title.
As to the actual point, while I feel sad for the cards, this is why I'm glad I'm a fairly targeted collector. Baseball only. And only Topps from 1951 on. This saves me from saving tens of thousands of cards I don't have room for and don't really want. But kudos to those who do. "Stars in your eyes...."
