As a Stan "The Man" collector, I can't fully agree with you there. Certainly one of the best hitters ever though. That's why I also collect Tony.

I probably spend between $25-50 a month. If I drive to the card shop (maybe 3x per year) those months are more expensive. Hanger packs are the best thing to happen to me. Blasters are more than I usually want to spend, so a $10 hanger box a few times a year, plus occasional packs, online purchases, and the card shop, and I really don't spend that much in the end. And this year will be cheaper than most because I actually quit collecting for a while, then restarted recently. I would rather take a trip or go to a game with my extra money. I just got home tonight from vacation. Wouldn't have been possible if I were still spending on cards like I used to in the 90s and early 2000s.
-------------------------------
I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I call B.S. on this sports commish. I have seen your comments lately on purchasing large collections and the number of good cards you have been selling on ebay. I also remember your posts on what you were buying during the world series. Your habit is greater than you will admit.
I'm obviously not being serios above. I just wanted to stir this thread up again.

BSwagger, thanks for reviving this thread.
Since it ewasfirst askred,I startedtrackingmy expenses. That was on the 5th of September. So we are now at the 2 months (almost).
My expenses since I started tracking: Cards - $616.41; Supplies - $144.00; Postage - $86.92. Total: $847.33. On Saturday, I willbe picking up a couple of cards from a fleamarket (1959 Clemente adn 1969 OPC Aaron). With that, it will bring the average up to about $500 / month. At this rate, it comes to just over $6000 / year. Now I can't say that I will spend that much on cards or supplies every month; I attended a card show in October (1953 Topps Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige + 41 others and some OPC 1981) and bought 2800 top loaders from a guy for 3.5 cents each. But when the cards present themselves, I can't let them go if they are a good price.
Of course, this is all in Canadian $$.

I spend a bit to much money on cards, and have been since 2011. (I feel like I have a problem...)

Excellent post. The First Step for Sportscommish is to admit he has a problem...

Just my 2 cents but I think everyone’s habit should include 60 bucks a year to keep this fantastic site up and running!
