This discussion reminds me-- Is there any way I can create my own set of Obscure Players within my collection? Sort of like a checklist of cards from different sets/years that I am looking to collect?
That could really help with my collection, since I would be doing it on the site, where my collection is fully documented.

You can create a want list if you're talking about cards you don't have yet. And you could do a card list (not sure I'm calling this by the right name) if it's cards in your collection already that you want to differentiate from your other cards.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Being a former Air Force brat and service member, I am going to collect sports cards of military veterans. It will be a difficult task, but on the plus side, I have a lot of them through just casual collecting.

I started collecting again for a fairly obscure reason. I play a baseball game called Dynasty League Baseball that comes with player cards exactly the same size as baseball cards. One of the reasons the designer did this was so you could put the player cards in a penny sleeve and then also insert the appropriate baseball card as well. So now I'm on a quest to get as many baseball cards to go along with my set of 2008 Dynasty League Baseball cards as I can. Buying a set of Topps cards got me about 2/3rds of the way there and now I'm trying to track down cards for the other 1/3rd, which is mostly fringe players.

New goal here, I want nine cards from every set possible, to display together in a 9 pocket sheet. Sure, I'll gladly take more than 9, but I want notebooks with a page for every set I can, but they don't go in until the page is full. I started rearranging my notebooks the other day, and just remembered this thread existed.

I have a player collection with sports people that have the same last name as me, from any sport. It started as a pre-war collection. From boxing. To lacrosse and even jockey cards. Some even have their first name the same as my last name. I have about 45 different cards. Major league and minor league cards. It don't matter to me. From 1887 N17 Old Judge, with 3 of 5 different poses. Some are Canadian issue cards and even one from Australia. Just something a little different.

Well I started this, so I'll update it now that it's revived. I went to this year's HOF ceremony (with Frank Sullivan-see first post, and a guy named Yudewitz, who has no players with his name) and we met Frank Thomas. Not hulking White Sox Frank Thomas, the other one. He was the sweetest old man ever, and we all loved him. So now I'm on a quest to get all his Topps cards. He was pretty good, so it's costing me more than my Frank Sullivan collection. But I'm doing well....

I have been working on a few different collecting goals.
Ultimate Hockey Card Catalog: Consisting of one card for every set made, including inserts and parallels.
One card for every hockey player if they exist. (Been a few years since I updated it)
Master Colorado Avalanche collection (all cards) (never going to happen) LOL
Master Boston Bruins collection (all cards) (never going to happen) LOL
Had spreadsheets for all these but lost in a computer crash (I know no back up)

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

Sorry Mike67 but you can't post that here. This thread is for dumb collecting goals. Collecting cards of stadiums actually sounds pretty cool. I would love to have cards of some of the old ballparks such as Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds, etc.
