For me personally, I enjoy cards of all types. My want list is around 23k cards right now but it is continually growing faster than I'm trading. For me personally, I'd rather have a card I don't own already over one that I have a double of. That goes for just about any card. When I'm browsing through different random years and sets I'll find sets that catch my eye and just click that "add missing cards to wantlist" on the off chance someone here may have one or more of the cards from that set to trade with me (or in some cases they are cards my kids collect like Pokemon or Mars Attacks).
Also adding more cards to the wantlist incrases the chances that someone will make trade offers to you. Someone who may only have 1 or 2 cards that I really want badly may have 30 or 40 other cards that I could use to fill sets that I'm not as excited about. If they see a bunch of cards that they want from me but only see 1 or 2 matches back they may not extend a trade where if there are 20 or 30 cards either way, they will. Of which, I get the 2 or so that I really want.
I am one of those that have almost 1mil. On my want list. Between me and my 2 sons. Youngest is starting to show interest. We all like different things and sports. We have nearly 100k per sport on our want list. Why. cause I have allot on my trade list. So if putting more on my want list helps get trades which helps out both parties why not. With me reentering the whole collection there are more added daily to both lists. So they keep growing
Realistically, My wife would kill me if all th cards showed up but a guy can dream.
I am strictly a Team collector as far as Sports and limited in what I am looking for in non sports. my wantlist is probably larger then I will ever fill but just because I might not ever run across a card does not mean I would say no if it happened to be available that is why the 1/1 and other extremely rare cards are on my list. A want list is not a have to have list it is your goals list. And the chase is always the thing for me.
My goal for using his site is to finish a pile of partial sets I have, and to collect my one player and a couple teams. I also like to start anything that just looks interesting.
My current wants are only at 2400, but my traders are over 14,000. That doesn't leave a lot of room for many trades, but if many of my cards help you and I only get a few in return, I'm good with that. Truth be told, I'm also not buying tons of new product to build sets or make avaiable for trade. For me, smaller is better

Upper Deck CFL, 2014-present Calgary Stampeders
Corban Knight (NHL)
Atlanta / Calgary Flames O-Pee-Chee team sets, manufactured patches
My Want List is off since I did a mass addition awhile back. And I have considered restarting the list but hesitate due to the tediousness of it. Since I've turned off trading until after Lent I may end up going that route. I do like the idea that a few have mentioned of a more focused approach, but always feel the need to expand the list enough to encourage larger more economically feasible trades.
Turned trading off - now that is a sacrifice for Lent.

Basically I collect what I enjoy. I have one room of my home dedicated to my collection and no one is permitted without permission. The Wife and I agree that we both would have one room used only for our hobbys and YES we clean our own rooms! lol. She collects Indian Dolls/Clothing. Needless to say I have no desire to enter Her room nor does she to mine. Mostly I collect and buld sets each year. Within the past 6 years I have narrowed down my sets to only Topps Regular issue as well as the Updates and Topps Heritage. I still really enjoy the old cardboard use over the new thin shiney paper of today. I collect both Baseball and Football with a special need for Steelers young and old. My Pirate and Steeler binders grow dayly and are my treasures. I have one other player that I collect outside the Pittsburgh realm. The Hitman Tony Gwynn! I watched Tony his entire career living in San Diego from 78 thru 2003. Never watched a better hitting in my life even the Great Roberto Clemente was not the complete hitter that Gwynn was in my opinion. Anything Gwynn will fit in my room! I spend a good amount of my time on this database and I love to trade. Lately I have had some bad deals on here with members not shipping my cards after I shipped to them. Such issues really need to be more addressed than Bad Feedback (ouchless in my opinion). Still love the site though! Most of the names here I have traded with and I am happy to see that. Look forward to more with any honest trader as usual!
