Buy/Sell/Trade Forum

I received another trade in the mail yesterday.  Thank you.  Problem is, I have about 20 trades presently ongoing and some from a few weeks back due to the slower mail.  When I opened this one, there was nothing to identify who sent it or what trade # it was.  Now if it was a larger trade, I would be able to figure it out quite quickly as they are fewer.  But when it is a trade of 30 cards or less, it makes it quite difficult to identify.

It has been repeated here in the Forums over and over again - identify your trade either with your ID or the trade # or both inside the package.  This just makes it easier for your trade partner.  I think most of you who are in the minority are receiving this courtesy from the majority of us.  Please take up this practice.

Problem with this Forum post is that many never bother reading anything in the forums so many of the valuable suggestions not only in trading but in submitting IR, entering checklists, or improving scans never get to those who really should read them.  I wish there was a way to force those who fail to learn, to read some posts.

On the positive side, this member packaged a mix of 22 cards and Topps coins between two pieces of cereal boxboard inside a 9x6" envelope and sent it to me for all of $1.60 from KS. Yes, postage to Canada need not cost you an arm and a leg.

Yes please. This is very helpful no matter how many trades you have going on. I'll admit I sometimes forget to do it but I always try to get that trade number inside and outside of packages. 

doesnt the card in the db show who has that card in transit?  I dont know if it is just cards that i have in transit, but you could look up the coin or card and maybe it will show who had it IT.  Then figure out which one is from KS...

I know that is a lot of work on your end that shouldnt have to take place, but we could solve it.

No, it was a trade.  Yes I can identify it through means of elimination from the trades I have on the go only because I keep track of every trade with the amount of cards going each way.  Sometimes traders do include extras which then might lead to thinking it was another trade so it is still a process of elimination. But it should not require any of that. This has been discussed here over and over again; most members are doing it so traders who do not have seen the courtesy come through in their trades.  Why not just copy the courtesy into the next trade?

I agree that it is important to identify what we ship, it is more than just a courtesy.

Also, I was thinking about something during the weekend. I don't know, but would it be a good idea to have some kind of link between accepted trades and the cards in our listings?

Let's say that you trade me 2020 Topps # 1, 3 and 10 in trade #123456. If I go in the 2020 Topps set and I click on #3, I won't just see it marked grey or yellow (in transit), but the trade number that made it turn yellow. The listing could look like "#3 John Doe (Trade) #123456 (in yellow)". Could it be a good idea for another site feature?

Easy solution, Stick a business card in all your trades.

I try to remember to do this but it isn't a habit and sometimes hard for me to remember because I'm the opposite of you. I usually like to have one trade at a time going on. I would never want 20 trades going on at one time. I don't have the time to pull and put away that much stuff at one time.

My point is that I agree that it is good practice to reference the transaction number but I don't think many members have that many open trades at once so it really isn't that difficult to find the transaction.

I have to admit i almost never put the transaction  number or my id in a trade. When i get a trade with them included i say to myself i have to remeber to do that from now on. I do like the idea of business card included. i even though about getting a return address stamp with my id on that. i never have alot of trades going on at one time so its easy for me to figure out what came from where But i dont know what the trade partner has going on. So going forward i think i will include the transaction number. thanks for the reminder that it makes it easier for everyone

I was guilty of this when I first started trading on the site, but now when I pack up cards, I put a note, my ID and the transaction #.  I have received a variety from those I have received from a quick note with just the transaction # all the way to the transaction printed out and sent along with the cards.  It is good habit to at least include the transaction # so if you do have lots going on or if you don't get to it right away you can refer back and make sure you complete it!
