I feel that all the time and effort I have put into adding what I see as "average" pricing from ebay for thousands of cards over the last couple of years (since the last big sportlots .18 pricing upload) has been pretty much ruined by the recent massive upload of sportlots pricing making so many cards .20 - I'm going to have a hard time spending all that time again moving forward. This makes this site fine as a checklist of my collection but not really an accurate value measure. For example, my overall collection value has dropped from over $63,000.00 to under $49,000.00 in the last couple of days. I've added several cards this week that were $6 - $15 and after I added a new sell price in that same range they went to .20

Apologies in advance for my "oh great, THIS thread again" reaction, but it's worth pointing out that the Sportlots prices added here are real. Purchases on Sportlots at $0.20 are just as valid as eBay and other sites. There are many reasons why a card that goes for $1+ on eBay could be found on Sportlots for $0.20. Still, those reported prices are just one data point, and the more that members report recent prices, the more they'll factor into the site's posted pricing.

Low ball prices happen all the time.
Today I picked up a 1975 Fred Lynn RC, poor centering but otherwise in excellent shape from a quarter box.
Last month it was a mint Mike Trout photo SP in a 50 cent box.
should we enter these into the db? Not worth the trouble.
The value in your collection is what you get out of it, both in enjoyment and ultimately in the sale price. If it matters that much, sell it and then you'll know for sure.

Sportslots is a pain especially when it's the only site creating submissions for pricing. They are real prices yes but might be a poor condition card
I have added many prices overtime and recently myself.
In actuality, "sportslots" creates false perceptions of low value/prices. It is more accurate if comc, eBay and other marketplaces was able to upload here to. However that is everyone's responsibility to keep prices factual
Maybe there is a way to merge like collex or some other app in here for average prices. Anyways I can see it be flustering

I'm with FreehanSolo THIS thread again.
We are talking about prices vs value. Price = what one pays for the card. Value= what you think the card is worth. People value cards differently- Seller on E-Bay and Sportlots does not get what the buyer has to pay to get the card in his hands. Which is the value what the seller gets or what the buy pays (total)
Talk to people who buys from Sportlots and they will say E-Bay is over priced. For some card it is.
As of now it shows your value as cover $59,000.00 One problem with that is: How many cards of your do not have a price added to it. So YES this is not a place to figure out what value of your collection is for the most part.
The site shows me with a little over 19,000 cards FS/FT with a value of over $7,000.00 and if anyone one want to buy them for $2,500.00 I will throw in 1,000s more cards.

I'll make this point again. The DB is not meant to be, in either primary or secondary purpose, a price guide. Pricing in here is a grain of salt and not defintive. As pointed out, there are real-world actual sales, but there's also a whole lot of missing and false data.

Imagine what collection values on TCDB would look like if cards could be sold on Sportlots for less than 20 cents.

The real issue here is people's perspective of value and the saying of what one will pay you for something. I sometimes laugh over a person's perception of a penny or Nickel and how they waste time selling cards for a falling value. It's less than the CPC. A penny and a nickel was worth something when most these cards came out. It's hilarious how you can use cheaper money with inflation and beef up your inventory to hold long term value. (Stocks also)
Currency can be manipulated and overwhelming printed. Prices rise and cost and values of things do or rather the money unit used/held loses value. Prices are not stable. A nickel in 1990 is not equal to a nickel in 2026. That nickels valve is approximately.15 cents in today's money. Bought a .25 card it's near .66 cents. Stop locking into your brain fake money values. It will continue to rise.
You complain the high cost of today's boxes/cards? No it's the value of your unit of currency Canada/USD it don't matter. Everything is going up.
Using only one marketplace platform creates false values. If other marketplaces were added it would show averages of all and overall averages.
Those sellers on sportslots have crazy prices on some things for sure. (What of shipping) But card supply will slowly slow and currency value loss will keep creating higher prices over time on multiple platforms.

Guys, I'm the original poster here and you are all agreeing with me acutally. If you thoroughly read my initial post, I'm indicating this site is a way to track what cards you have in your personal collection, not a price guide or a way to track the value of your collection with the addition of sportlots entries. I guess I would add, I'm fine with just letting sportlots do all of the pricing entries from now on, I'll have a lot more time for other things. And yes, as someone above pointed out, somehow the "whatever you want to call it overall value" of my collection has crept back up over $55,000.00 (lol) Lastly, I am 59 years old and been a collector since I was about 5 years old. I've never sold a single card in my entire life, and my son will inherit my entire collection - so value is pretty meaningless to me other than it is fun to track on occasion. Happy collecting everyone!

A lot of the sellers on sports lots also sell the cards for .20 but have $2-$3 postage to undercut other sellers
