Year: 2014

Set: Bowman (Rate)

Card: #151 Andre Ethier

“ I once saw Andre participate in a Dodgers charity event at Trader Joe's (Pasadena, CA) back in January 2010. He did a lot of charity work on behalf of the Dodgers. Too bad the card design makes it look like the 'LA' logo is part of his pants--nice card otherwise. ” -bbcardz

“ Bowman cards always look the same to me. Call me cynical but I think their designs are kind of tired. ” -pugchump

“ I always thought 2014 Bowman looked really nice. I don’t know why but it’s always been one of the best looking sets to me. ” -mkb

“ Like the design but name is hard to read on front ” -captkirk42

“ Andre Ethier was an underappreciated player for the Dodgers - IMO. for a 5 year stretch they had 6 OF on the 40 man, and he was always the guy to dump, and always the 2 young kids in the minors were not ready yet, and one of the guys ahead of him was injured, so they kept him for one more year, and he delivered. ” -abide

“ Vertical card good. Horizontal stats, just why. ” -OverkillKid

One day in 2009 I spent the whole day at Dodger Stadium thanks to my friend Mr. Mattingly.  Prior to that day Ethier had been slumping badly. Mid-afternoon, while the players are starting to arrive, I'm looking down from the owner's suite and I see Joe Torre sitting next to Ethier with his arm around Andre.  Must have been some kind of pep talk b/c Ethier hit 3 home runs off the Mariners that night!

If you like the look of modern Bowman I am going to assume you do your own taxes, take your coffee black, your favorite ice cream is vanilla, and you wince at the sight of Topps Project 70 cards. Bowman has become that bland, dollar store brand looking card that lacks any creativity. I guess Topps tries to make up for that by producing 100 different colored borders (ooh, how exotic). I am not sure how/when/why Bowman turned into this since the 1940's. I would assume Bowman cards are shoved in closet boxes instead of binders or dipslays more often than any other brand. It should be renamed Topps Snoozefest for Prospectors.

Bland Bowman. That's what I seem to think whenever I see one of their cards as the RCOTD.

Dre! One of my all-time favorite Dodgers. Got to get to know him a couple of years ago when I was his boys' PE teacher. Class act. Always looking to add to my PC of him.
