Year: 2003-04

Set: Pacific Heads Up - Retail LTD (Rate)

Card: #32 Mike Modano

“ I'm generally not a fan of cards where the background is replaced by computer generated graphics, yet I kind of like these cards...not sure why, I guess I'm just strange. I like how easy the name is to read. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I like it . . . a lot . . . ” -georgecf

“ Pacific usually put out stuff I liked for hockey. This one not so much. The front design kinda gives me a headache. ” -Gunny

“ As parallel concepts go, the "RETAIL LTD" banner across the front is pretty terrible. The basic card design is decent, but not up to the standards of the previous 'Heads Up" sets. ” -bevans

“ At the end of its run, Pacific's parallels were stupid. I liked some of their earlier things, but the later stuff was lame. ” -cjjt

“ Nice sideways card. Would be nice if the words were not on the sides. Other than that the front design is OK. Back is a bit lame with one year of stats. But oh they mention the player was a leader for his team for the last 5 years, but only one year of stats and a huge honkin' photo on the back. UGH. ” -captkirk42

“ A like this design. Pacific did produce some distant sets. Mike Modano was a great player by the way. ” -Brendan Barrick

“ Not a huge fan of the subtly marked parallels. Make them stand out! ” -suomibear8

“ Also appeared/starred in The Mighty Ducks. "I heard you were a farmer." ” -vanstryland

“ This card is a mess. The dots makes everything blend together. I hope this looks better in hand. ” -CardFlipper1974

“ For being a graphic background, this looks pretty cool. ” -muskie027

Some good concepts, just badly executed.

I quite liked this when I saw it this morning, as I am a big collector of mid 90's Score NHL, which also leaned heavily on these types of graphics, but this is from Pacific, which I found strange. I'd come to know their designs as more cutting edge. Also, some of the manufacturers get carried away with parallel sets like this. If this is the parallel, I'd rather just have the same card from the base set.
