Random Card of the Day

Year: 2001-02

Set: Topps / O-Pee-Chee Archives (Rate)

Card: #14 Stan Mikita

“ I don't collect or follow hockey so I don't know for sure if this is a reprint or a current player on an old design but either way I don't care for the front. I love the back, miss the cartoons and interesting tidbits on the back of cards. The front of this card I would give a 3 and the back a 10. ” -davidhandberry

“ Nice reprint set. In a bit of oddity, I've gotten cards from the 50s already but I don't have any of these. This season the Blackhawks are wearing a memorial patch all season long as he died a few months ago. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Cool reprint from a retro set. Or should I say a reprint set? I wonder how many cards in the set have matching card numbers like this one? I wonder how many of they (Topps/OPC) tried to match up for the set? Getting back to the card design I loved the trivia cartoons on older designs and some of the gimmicks they used for them. ” -captkirk42

“ LOVE IT!!! ” -cjjt

“ Actually not a comment on design or layout or anything...but what is up with his socks? Just doesn't look right. ” -rmpaq5

“ A legend and a nice card. I'd take it. ” -muskie027

“ I didn't know there was a hockey Archives set. Not real crazy about the design. ” -switzr1

The Retro design on this set is very nice,  ring Stan I can forgive that it's a Blackhawk.

Hull and Makita... What a 1-2 punch back in the day.. Always liked Stan and any "old style" card would be a keeper.

I'm gonna throw this out there...if a modern set had this exact design, I bet it would have been unanimously disliked.  Fake background.  Color scheme doesn't match team colors.  Incomplete stats on the back.  Many of the traits that get complained about in these comments quite regularly.  My point isn't that it's a bad card. My point is that we sometimes hold modern cards to a standard that never really existed!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Odd how they have the colors of the Ukrainian flag on the card though he was a Slovak.

RIP Stan the Man. A true gentleman of the game and one of my favorite Blackhawks of All-Time.  Card is okay but anything with Stosh is a card I want!!!

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff.  I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards".  How apropos!!!  Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

This is the first hockey player I ever heard of due to his Chicago connection to Sears. I remember seeing him in those old Sears catalogs.
