Year: 1995

Set: SP (Rate)

Card: #157 Steve Bono

“ How I miss 90's QB's. ” -carthage44

“ Very nice cards. Smart design both front and back. ” -KMack

“ I like this set. Nice pictures on both sides. The name on the front is a little lost, that I think is the only negative for me. ” -davidhandberry

“ Classy looking card/set. Especially like the large action image on the back. This also reminds me of another classic Chris Berman-ism: Steve "I Got You Babe" Bono. ” -mkaz80

“ Steve Bono Ranked #179th all time passing yards. ” -kirkscards

“ Good to see a Chief! Good photos on this card. Front is clean and focuses on the player, back is decent on info and has another nice game photo used. A solid B card for a C- player. ” -Brimose

“ I really liked SP when they first came out. Still a good looking card. ” -cnangle

“ Where's Cher? I got you babe..... ” -Gunny

“ For as much as I loved Upper Deck base sets, I never really got into any of there sub sets. Not digging the mall name on this and a lot of space is dedicated on the left to the Upper Deck branding. Also, full stats please. ” -muskie027

“ I like this design. Don't think I've seen one before. Personally I think it would be better had they just landscaped the whole front instead of running text vertically up the sides. But I can live with what they did. ” -kents_stuff

“ Good looking card, disappointment in a qb. ” -parsley24

“ I love up-close-and-personal action shots like this one, but not keen on player info minimized while card company maximized. ” -Sportzcommish

“ Another football set I both like and dislike. The arrow pyramid thing is too large has to go. Sideways vertical writing a no-no. Player name too small, where is the team name? Logo? Player position? Back photo way too large only one year of stats. Very little info at all. ” -captkirk42

“ Not a bad card. Very impressed with two different photos and not much clutter on the front. ” -NJDevils

I INCLUDED some INFO on many of these cards and set. It's loaded with Hall of Famers! There are condition issues that seem minor but can destroy them easily too. Hope it's a good read or way to see them from the ways I look at them too. I am hard on csrds as to the conditions & overall appeal. I use the exact same Lupes, Rulers, Optics etc to look at my collections up close or to verify others that PSA & BGS use in grading. I don't have the items actual ID with me now but I can list it later if anyone cares to know what optic or Lupe styles the graders use and the light type as well, NO halogen etc..

▪These are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE CARD DESIGNS OF THE 90'S IN ALL SPORTS!!!! There are numerous (40+) HOF'S in the set but the Rookies are loaded with them too but mostly in Linemen which is a suprise ya know? The layout is clean, crisp and very well photographed. I like to see more STATS & Player Info on the backs of any card but for what they lack they made up for in the images being clear & having action shots with a face or head shot is nice for actually seeing the players face. (1983 Topps Baseball to me is the Best Set Made for all the issues I mentioned being addressed in them with action & portrait pics, centering, stats, info or trivia and so on, I don't like cards that have COA's only on the back like many Game Used do, they only need a hologram or tamper proof seal to legitimize the card and show info abt the athlete in the front, for me at least)

> I also like the Subsets and the Paralles but they are hard to hit & Hard to keep in top shape too. Overall this is a 10/10 card design and set for me.

▪ I lived next to a Hobby Shop for years and this set is HIGHLY CONDITION SENSITIVE! I will tell why & what to watch for if buying these off others bcz it's tricky at times.

> The foil fronts will stick to the card on top of it and if not sleeved from packs and kept in a collectors box without sleeves they will "stick" & when you flex them to get them loose, they leave foil on the card atop it on the back, usually on the back right side.

> The foil on front has a texture to it and some fine lines when pressed, of the card has had a finger nail pinch on it there from mishandling then a Lupe shows It, easy to mess the Foil up which is why I enjoy them bcz they are hard to keep right.

> Some people still sell unopened boxes of these and that's good but if not in climate controlled environments they can start to stick in the pack & foil will flake, that is the most common issue with These, not allowing them to get warm or stacked without sleeves at least. If they make a cracking sound when you look thru or try then they will leave foil on the card ahead.

> Foil areas on left front have a Logo & Manufacturer name in gold, these can flake off easier and a Lupe will shown it clearly. It devalues them greatly.

>The Premier Prospects #1-20 are all foil except for the tops and bottoms of fronts, thatbare black bordered and hard to keep the edges from flaking if not sleeved as well.

>The backs of all cards are colored without a border line etc, this allows for chipping too.

> MOST IMPORTANT - NEVER BUY ANY THAT AREN'T STORED IN CLIMATE CONTROLLED AREAS. I'VE SEEN PACKS OPENED YEARS LATER THAT HAVE RUSTED FOIL ON THEM AND PLENTY OF CARDS WITH NO SLEEVE OR SLEEVES WITH "PVC" ISSUES WILL SHOW RUST ON FOIL TOO.

▪NONE about the ROOKIES listed in the 'Rookie List" area were in the "PREMIER PROSPECTS" ROOKIES #'S 1 to 20. That's big bcz they only put a few in each team to make a team set.

▪ The team sets were in numerical order as well so that your teams are linked up easily, I like that a lot as well. Each team had only 6 or so members in them, most "Skilled Positions" but Rookies like Warren Sapp were added with a "RC" Stamp on lower right corners & they nailed the good ones!

¤ NOTE: All -  "PSA 10'S" -  I'VE FOUND SOLD FOR THE PRICES I INCLUDED BCZ I HAVE A "WHAT'S IT WORTH" APP THAT BACKDATES ALL AUCTIONS FOR SELLING PRICES & DATES ETC, NICE LITTLE APP FOR FREE THAT HELPS VALUE CARDS.

¤ IF U ASSIGN $$ TO THEM OR INSURE THEM, THIS SET IS INSURABLE FOR MANY REASONS AS I HAVE LISTED:

• #99 - Warren Sapp - DT - Bucs / PSA-10 Sold for $300.00+, When he went in the HOF. Dropped some post Domestic Violence Charges to $150 +/- $25 recently.

• #174 - Ty Law - CB - Patriots / PSA 10 sold for $150+ dropped to $80 +/-$15 recently.

•  #18 - Curtis Martin - RB - Patriots / PSA 10 sold for $400.00+ but dropped later to like $100 +/-$25, recently. (This is in Premier Prospects Foil Fronts w/Black Bordered & Hard to Kept Mint)

• #103 - Derrick Brooks - LB - Bucs / PSA 10 & This Suprised Me Big Time, $450.00+!! Kept Value bit is like $150 +/- $25 recently.

• # 130 - Terrell Davis - RB - Broncos / PSA 10 $225, but has lowered to around $50 +/- $10 recently.

• #147 - Tony Boselli - T -Jags / PSA 10 $350, but at or near $125 +/- $25 recently.

ALL OF THOSE ARE HOF'S EXCEPT FOR "DAVIS" I THINK, BUT HE'S A GOOD CANDIDATE STILL.

■ Then we have ROOKIES ONLY that might be or considered to be like HOF'S by Some or Big Names for Teams etc:

▪ #3 - Steve McNair - QB- Oilers / FOIL PROSPECTS

▪ #6 - Joey Galloway - WR - Seahawks / FOIL PROSPECTS

▪  #4 - Michael Westbrook - WR - Redskins / FOIL PROSPECTS

▪ #69 - Ray Zellars - RB - Saints

▪ #144 - Elllis Johnson - DT - Colts

▪ #183 - Mark Bruener - TE - Steelers

▪ #189  - Terrell Fletcher - RB - Chargers

▪ #144 - Ellis Johnson - ST - Colts

▪ #143 - Ken Dilger - RE - Colts

THEN THE HOF'S THAT WERE NOT ROOKIES BUT PLAYED AND ARE INCLUDED IN THE BASE SET ARE, & ADDING THIS TO THE LIST OF ROOKIES MAKING HOF IT'S A VERY NICE SET OF MONSTER STAT HOLDERS AND LEGENDS, AS LISTED (SOME HAVE (?) BCZ I'M NOT CERTAIN ABT HOF STATUS BCZ I'M JUST NAMING THEM VIA MY SET IN BOOKS, BUT IT'S CLOSE TO 50 WITH ROOKIES & THESE BELOW:

• #39 - Troy Aikman - QB - Cowboys

• #40 - Michael Irving - WR - Cowboys

• #41 - Charles Haley - DR - Cowboys

• #42 - Deion Sanders - CB - Cowboys

• #100 - Trent Dilfer - QB - Bucs (?)

• #111 - Jim Kelly - QB - Bills

• #112 - Andre Reed - WR - Bills (?)

• #113 - Bruce Smith - DR - Bills

• #116 - Cornelius Bennett - LB - Bills

• #119 - Jeff Blake - QB - Bengals (?)

• #122 - Dan Wilkinson - DT - Bengals (?)

• #128 - Andre Rison - WR - Brown's  (?)

• #129 - Shannon Sharpe - RE - Broncos

• #134 - John Elway - QB - Broncos

• #146 - Marshall Faulk - RB - Colts

• #149 - Desmond Howard - WR - Jaguars

• #154 - Marcus Allen - RB - Chiefs

• #155 - Niel Smith - DE - Chiefs

• #158 - Derrick Thomas - LB - Chiefs

• #164 - Tim Brown - WR - Raiders

• #168 - Bryan Cox - LB - Dolphins  (?)

• #176 - Drew Bledsoe - QB - Patriots (?)

• #178 - Boomer Esiason - QB - Jets (?)

• #187 - Rod Woodson - CB - Steelers

• #192 - Junior Seau - LB - Chargers

• #198 - Cortez Kennedy - DT - Seahawks (?)

• #200 - Chris Warren - RB - Seahawks (?)

That's close to or near the 50 Mark for either Team HOF'S or League HOF'S so it's a loaded set for sure!

I would have liked the name and team at the bottom of the card but this is a pretty classy looking piece of cardboard. I believe the baseball set has the same design. If I still collected Football, I'd grab some of these.
