Year: 2015

Set: Topps Chrome - Xfractors (Rate)

Card: #70 Troy Polamalu

“ The last year for Topps football. RIP ” -ketchupman36

“ I really miss Topps Chrome football. Beautiful card, great player. ” -702tpr777

“ Is this the Head & Shoulders guy ? ” -uncaian

“ I am pretty sure this was the last year that Topps had an NFL licence. Very sad as Panini has gotten very stale. ” -carthage44

“ Nice card. This was my favorite of the latter years of Topps, though i dont think i own any chrome. I like it. And Steelers uniforms, like Pirates uniforms, always look nice on cards. I never even made the connection until a couple months ago that Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins all have the same team colors. ” -switzr1

“ Great player. All-time great Steeler and probable HOFer. In terms of the card, I'd like Chrome a lot more if the cards didn't buckle and bow. ” -mkaz80

“ The refs screwed the seahawks in 2005. There got it out of the system. That said, actually a nice modern card, although i am not a fan of chrome. And on the back, i do not like the number not in the upper right hand/ left hand corner. Petty, I know, but I prefer it there when shuffling through cards. ” -parsley24

“ I reluctantly admit that I think this card is pretty cool. ” -Vvvergeer

“ Signature hair flowing out of the helmet. Love it! ” -Sportzcommish

“ Great Card! Wish he was still around. ” -Quinn820

“ This is head and shoulders above the other football cards I've seen. :) ” -vrooomed

“ Loved watching him play in Pittsburgh, he fit the mold of that Dick LeBeau defense perfectly. Nice looking card BTW... ” -rmitchell6700

I don't know how I missed writing about this one. The Refractor technology is my favorite parallel concept in card history. I enjoy the Atomic and later named X-Fractors (same technology) but I prefer the basic refractor a little more. Fun fact: the first "rainbow" I ever worked on and completed was the Checklist in 1997-98 Bowman's Best, which in those days the term Rainbow didn't exist yet for getting all parallel versions. It only had three. I see on the card blogs and here that there are a lot of new technologies used by Topps to make different kinds of refractors, which look very cool in scans, but I have not seen in person. Wish Topps still had the NBA license. My only football refractors in my collection actually come from this set. I don't remember where they came from but I remember scanning them.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

As much as I love the X-fractor parallels, I do not love this design at all. IMO, Topps was getting better in their designs in 2011, 12, 13, and even 2014. Then this plop came out for their final NFL design. Did they even look at this border before they printed it? I mean, it's not bad as a base card, but it looks really bad with Chrome and Refractor technology on it. I WANT to say that I'm not sad to see them leave the NFL, but at the same time: Panini is going to do the same to NFL cards that Topps did to MLB cards for me. No competition equals no innovation! That just leads to stale repetition.

If only I could win the lottery or even Publishers Clearing House's "lottery" that no one ever wins. I'd give every card manufacturer a run for their money!

Hmm I missed this one? For the last Topps NFL License year the design insn't that great. A bit busy and in someways too dark. I really hate the fact that all the football now-days is ALL Panini.

I may be hated for this but you can't give me NFL cards anymore, or newer cards with current players. They kneel on a flag I defended and many pals died defending. I'm not against protest but I'm strongly against players doing it when their JOB IS TO ENTERTAIN, NOT USE FALSE NARRATIVES TO PICK AT WOUNDS THAT SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE TO HEAL. I have a Lynch RC BGS 9.5 I am thinking about holding Ransom on Ebay to stop me from destroying it/them  on You Tube along with a few others.  I haven't watched NFL in 2 Yrs and will not watch it until this issue is over. 85% of NFL Players have Domestic Violence or Felony arrest records and I wouldn't allow any child in my family to ever watch these ridiculous players abuse their fame for garbage.

That said, I collect the older stuff up to 98 or so. This refractor is too busy, I prefer the old school rainbow refractors that don't flicker as bad as these. So hate me for my stance but I'm not buying new football bcz the money is paid to the very players on them and I'm not giving money to a player, someone being paid to pay a game for a living who makes millions upon millions of dollars a game and claim to be oppressed!! I honestly think theBay NFL will lose revenue in a way that players cannot be paid ludicrous salaries to act like children, and when the money goes so do the trades and players.......

RIP isn't justified bcz they don't want peace and have segregated themselves after decades of complaining to be equal, and it's more than equalized, but having that stuff occur and now using the media to attack is ridiculous......

Sorry if I offend anyone but they offend me and every brother and sister in arms......

Actually, Polamalu started a foundation that assists wounded veterans returning from Afghanistan. His brother is in the Navy.  And he retired a couple years before the anthem kneeling started.  Just sayin'.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
