Despite never being a starter in Detroit and appearing in only 92 games over 3 season for the Tigers, J.W. Porter was named one of the "10 Greatest Characters in Detroit Tigers History" by Sport Illustrated in 2006. He once trained for an egg eating contest, but the world champion never showed.
