2003 was a year of transition for Racing Champions. They attempted to number the releases for the first time, but skipped some numbers and abandoned the numbering process mid-year. They released some issues in 2003 packaging and with 2003 sized cards, but of the 2002 design. The cards were traditional sized from 1989-98, and again in 2001 and 2002. It was the last year of the Premier line, and the Ultra line debuted. They brought out smaller cards in 2000 and brought them back for 2003 and 2004, before going to large diecut cards for 2005, the final year. The small cards would be brought back for the promos in 2006, and the few promos that came later got no cards at all.
