Trivia

  • The Santa Claus card was given out to card dealers during the holidays. Only 1000 were produced.
  • Card #47 was originally William "Refrigerator" Perry, but it was pulled from production after approximately 10,000 copies were released since Perry and the NFLPA hadn't given clearance to include him yet. Bears teammate Ron Morris became the replacement #47, and after Perry gave consent, he returned to the set on card #445, which has the same bio as the original #47.
  • the 1989 Owners Edition only contains cards 1 through 440, Pete Rozelle CC1 and Super Bowl Logo's 1-23

the Errors and Variations set contains most of the error or variation cards (some have the C Version of Riggs and Byner, while others contain the rare D Versions), set also contains 2 x 1988 Pro Set Test, Santa Claus and 23 different cards explaining what the error or variation was and why they were changed
  • #14 Gerald Riggs - UER: Birthplace should read "Tullos"; back should read "Running Back - 42"
  • #186 Howie Long - UER: Birthplace should read "Somerville"
  • #209 Mike Wilcher - UER: Fumble recoveries (FUM REC) should read "1" in 1987 & 1988, "0" in all others, and "2" in Totals
  • #450 Barry Krauss - UER: 1979-1983 Team should read "Baltimore"
  • #493 Bobby Humphrey - UER: back should read "Running Back - 26"
  • #521 Rodney Peete - UER: back should read "Quarterback - 9"

I gave this set 7.5. It’s a classic like many members have mentioned already. The design was fresh and unique to any cards of its time with the exception of say Score. Advanced stats and great player bio are also a nice addition to the card back. Over produced but not under appreciated.

This was the first pack of cards I ever opened. I got my first raider card. Howie Long. After that I couldn't stop for about a year straight. Within 12 month I had over 2000 raider cards. That's how it started

thanks to Shane (ebay seller talyho-enterprise) for letting me post a picture of the 1989 Pro Set Error and Variations Set and the 1990 Pro Set Owners Edition Series 1 and 2 in the packaging section, both sets are extremely rare and are very high on my wish list, unfortunately their cost is also very high which cancels out any hope of getting them soon.

Edit: finally picked up the Owners Edition December 2023 of Jim Bailey, picked up the Errors and Variations set in 2022
