Trivia |
- This was the first year since Scanlens football cards were introduced in 1963 that prizes were offered, with details on cards included in the set. This year the details were given on cards 12, 24, 36, 60, 83 and 163. First prize was a trip to the Preliminary Final at the MCG on the 23rd of September, 1989, including airfares (see card #36). The Premilinary Final turned out to be at Waverley Park seeing Essendon, 10.10.70 go down to Geelong, 21.12.138. See the reverse of card #12 for details of 2nd (50 prizes) and 3rd (30 prizes). To enter, 10 wrappers had to be sent into Scanlens.
- The photo for Greg Healy's card (#14) was the exact same photo for his 1988 Scanlen's card (#50)
- For the second year in a row Sean Wight was pictured in the rooms after the game in the photo for his card (#21) as opposed to the more common on field shot. This year he was pictured with a Snickers, the previous season, with a Sprite (#48).
- Mark Withers' Brisbane Bears card (#143) shows him wearing 'The Big V' of Victoria in the rooms during the previous year's State of Origin. Withers was originally from Tasmania but eligibility rules at the time allowed him to represent Victoria.
- Coincidentally, the photo for Greg Healy's card (#14) was taken within moments of the photo used for the cover of the 1987 Elimination Final Footy Record for the match between North Melbourne and Melbourne.
