This card might not be an UER. When the WHA ceased operations after the 78-79 season, the four surviving teams were each allowed to protect 4 players, but the Jets did not protect Hull. Any player who left the NHL that was not protected was automatically returned to his most recent NHL team, so Hull was briefly the property of the Black Hawks in the summer of 79. Subsequently, there was an expansion draft for the 4 new teams and the Black Hawks did not protect Hull, and the Jets drafted him back to the team. It is strange that Topps did have some of the players from that draft on their new teams, but not Hull. |
