L. J. "Dutch" Cain (Lawrence James) was the brother of James Francis "Dutch" Cain (Mtl Maroons & Toronto St. Pats) and the cousin of Herbert "Dutch" Cain (Mtl Maroons, Mtl Canadiens, Boston Bruins). Following the 1923-24 Dominion of Canada Memorial Cup Championship with Owen Sound Greys, L. J. "Dutch" Cain went on to play with Eveleth & Calumet winning a title in 1927 in the old Central League. Returning to Canada in 1928 he won a Northern Ontario Senior title with South Porcupine. Then won titles in the Eastern League with Baltimore Orioles and Bronx Tigers and was League MVP in 1934-35. L. J. "Dutch" Cain was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in Minnesota in the early 1970's. He is also in the Owen Sound and Collingwood, Ontario Sports Hall of Fames. |
