NBA Throwback Jerseys by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Jul 24, 2020

The NBA introduced "Thowback" jerseys during the 1996-97 season to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the league. They have remained a popular nod to history to this very day. I'm going to attempt to document every card that shows a throwback on the front...at least as long as it's part of my collection. A work in progress. To my knowledge of the 30 teams in the NBA, the Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves are the only teams to have never worn throwbacks.

NBA Players who appear on cards but did not get any of their own by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Jun 18, 2020

There are more than 1000 people who have played in the NBA but did not get an NBA card. Some, however, do appear on other player's cards in the background or defending the player. A work in progress.
College cards do not count but other professional leagues do.

Elton Brand on other people's cards by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Mar 11, 2020

Elton Brand is my all-time favorite NBA player. He is from my family's hometown of Peekskill NY and I began following his career while he was still in high school. He became my favorite player though because of who he is, the fact that he is a hometown hero means I just got to learn about him before everyone else. He was the #1 pick in the 1999 NBA Draft, and played for the Bulls, Clippers, 76ers, Mavericks and Hawks before returning to the 76ers. He played until the 2015-16 season and is now leading the Delaware 87ers G-League team. This gallery will be cards of other people that he appears on, either his teammates or playing defense. I know there are more, which I will eventually add, but the idea just occured to me to create this list in November 2017 so it will take me some time to look through all of my collection and find the rest.

Patches! by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Feb 25, 2020

I have stated many times I liked the hobby better when it was all base set collecting, no "hits". Yet, I would probably be sad if they went away. (Hypocritical, I know).

There is something special about pulling a patch card. When they started doing relics in 1996 they didn't do patches, and when they started introducing patch cards, they didn't make a big deal about it...if you got one, that was great, but it was just considered a jersey card. That didn't last long, and they soon became the de facto parallel for relics.

For the NBA, patches come from the player's name, the team logo, the number, or the tag. (But NOT the borders around the arm or neck holes) For NASCAR it comes from the sponsor patches or the driver's name. I've got quite a few patches, so I thought I would share them in a List.

Kids on cards who later got their own cards by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Feb 12, 2020

I couldn't think of a better name for the list. Sometimes second or third generation athletes appear on cards from their parents, then grow up and get cards of their own. If you know of any others please let me know, I will add them, unlike most of my lists which are more to track my collection. Only cards that were issued when they were kids, not later issues.

Just for fun I decided to track how many cards I get via trade in 2019. Most will be with Database members but I am also active on the NASCAR only forum and several Facebook groups...might try to get back onto SportsCardForum at some point as well.

Enfield, CT Card Show 2/2/19 Additions by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Feb 16, 2019

I had not been to a card show since 2005, but I attended the Enfield Card Show on February 2nd, 2019. These are the cards I added to my collection at that show. Does not include the cards from the unopened packs, the set I won as a door prize, or the cards from the box Jim gave me- all of which I looked at later. These are only the singles I purchased.

2018 Card of the Day by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Dec 31, 2018

2018 marks my 30th anniversary in the hobby. To celebrate, I am going to try and get at least one new card every single day of the year. To ensure this works, I have been stashing cards for this project since 2015! I didn't get to celebrate any of my other big anniversaries since I didn't stop to count how many years I had been in the hobby until year #26. On days where I get more than one card, the first card of that day will be the card of record, shown here in this list and in a monthly wrapup on Cardboard History.

I have a major SN addiction. I love them. Whenever I get some money on COMC, I usually sort by SN and then just add as many different cards as I can before I run out of money.

New people added to my collection in 2018 NHL only by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Dec 30, 2018

Last year, 2017, was my first collecting the NHL. I will collect the sport for the rest of my life, but I'm still in the early stages. I already have about 2500 different players in my collection, let's see how many more I add in 2018

Vegas Golden Knights All-Time Roster by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Jun 22, 2018

I became a hockey fan because of the Vegas Golden Knights. When the team revealed it's logo, in November 2016, I read a thread on here talking about it. I wanted to see it, so I put on NHL Network, and I got hooked. Big time. The NHL is now part of every single day of my life, a very large part. As the Golden Knights are now starting to get cards, I'm going to keep track of the all-time roster, in this list... However, I have two rules for inclusion on this list: The player MUST be listed as a member of the Golden Knights, and the card MUST be in my collection. As such, no cards from before the 2017-18 season will be in this list.

Better Stuff Available for Trade by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Apr 10, 2018

I like to trade fairly simply. One card for one card, it doesn't matter who is on the card or what set I am getting back as long as I need it. However, I do have a few things that are slightly rarer that I'd like something slightly rarer for in return.

Chasing that Cardboard Rainbow by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Jan 25, 2018

The concept of collecting a Rainbow is getting every different version parallel for a specific card. This became possible in the late 1990s when sets started having more than one parallel, and now is nearly impossible with 1/1s and printing plates. I've only completed 4 at the time of this writing (1/11/18) all of which are NBA. Naturally I'm not considering the cards that had only one parallel. List was inspired by the Card of the Day on day of typing. List title inspired by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCPpOba2O4g

Relics added to my collection in 2017 by Billy Kingsley

I've never tracked how many autographs, relics and serially numbered cards I've ever gotten in a year before. I decided to do that in 2017, hopefully I will remember to add each one to these lists as I add them to the Database.

New People Added to my collection in 2017 - Hockey Only by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Dec 29, 2017

2017 is the year I began actively collecting the NHL. I like to keep track of the first card I get of each person, and this is the easiest way for me to do that. Since so many of the people are going to be new for me, I thought it proper to create a chart just for them, plus I get to see how many new people I add to my collection in 2017. Thanks to the gifts from several friends, I begin with exactly 3000 cards in my NHL collection.

New Sets added to my collection in 2017 by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Dec 28, 2017

Unlike previous years, I will attempt to include ALL sets, not just the three main aspects of my collection. Since I cleared the 1000 cards mark in baseball and football in 2016, and the 3000 mark in hockey, I've got a lot of sets already and in 2016 made a chart on my blog that lists the sets- so now I have something to work off of to determine which is new or not. I began collecting the NHL full time in 2017 so the list is hockey heavy but covers a wide variety of topics spanning 128 years. The first card from each set added to my collection is the card that appears in the album. It can be any card, IE, base, parallel, insert, etc.

Badly airbrushed Basketball cards by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Dec 17, 2017

Sometimes, when a player joins a new team, a card set will be released before a photo of the player in the new uniform can be obtained. Most of the time, preferably, there will be a note on the card, or just a second card in the Series 2 release when card companies actually cared. But sometimes...sometimes they would paint on a new jersey. And it's absolutely hideous. The entire 2000 Topps USA set for the men could be on this list, also.

Players who played in the first NBA Game I ever saw by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Oct 31, 2017

The NBA has been a guiding factor in my life since I was 12 years old, and most of the time since then, the NBA has played a role in every day since. It all started somewhere, though, and that date was February 14th, 1996. Valentine's Day. I had already been collecting cards for 8 years by that point, but none of my friends collected NASCAR or non-sport. Everyone collected the NBA. So Mom got me a pack of 1995-96 Fleer for Valentine's Day and changed my life forever. Later that night, I found the Knicks-Hornets game on MSG, and the rest, as they say, is history. Thanks to basketball-reference.com, I can create this chart, and see that the Knicks got blown out by 20 points in Charlotte. https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199602140CHH.html

Athletes who fought diabetes during their active playing career. If you know of more who have cards, please let me know.
In 2013 I almost died from diabetes, which I did not know I had, when it turned into Ketoacidosis. Even today I have still not fully recovered from KTA and am told I probably never will.

10,000 People By Sport by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Jan 21, 2017

Since 2015 I have made it my goal to get as many different people into my collection as possible. With the gifts of fellow card bloggers I saw a massive increase in baseball, football and hockey players during 2016, and on January 15th, 2017, I hit the 10,000 person mark in my collection. Each person had to have actually lived on Earth at some point, IE, comic book characters and TV/Movie roles are not counted. Each person had to have a card all to themselves, no team cards, league leaders or shared cards. I have an Excel chart listing all the people in my collection, and these are the totals for each sport.

New Sets added to my collection in 2016 by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Dec 31, 2016

Like last year, this is limited to NBA, NASCAR and non-sports. (mostly) I made an effort to get every NBA and NASCAR set that was missing from my collection during 2016, and for the most part I succeeded. There is one NBA set that is too expensive but I finally completed NASCAR in December. It only took me 24 years.

Top 25 Most Wanted Cards that I added to my collection via the Database by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Mar 29, 2016

Yikes, that's a long name, but I can't think of a better way to do it. The Database has great people on it...and since I made my Top 25 most wanted list, I have added several of the cards to my collection. I thought I would document them here. The list may end up larger than 25 cards eventually, as when I get one of the 25, I will replace them on the wanted list with whatever comes next on the list

New Sets added to my collection in 2015 by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Jan 13, 2016

I was originally going to include every set that entered my collection in 2015, but I did not count on the kindness of my fellow card collectors, and the most amazing day in my collection's history- January 31st, 2015, saw me get 3679 new cards added to my collection, (all but two as gifts!) and 437 new sets added to my collection- too many to add to this chart. Both of those are personal records that will surely never fall. (The old records were 1388 and 22, respectively)
