This was the 1st set of Football Cards (Sports Cards in general) that I ever ripped! The great action in the photos, along with the sleek feel of the card and stylish designs, mixed with the cool "Golden Anniversary" inserts and rare parallels, all initiated my passion for the hobby of collecting Sports Cards!

Topps produced a NFL football set in 1951 called Topps Magic. It wasn’t super popular so they stopped making professional football cards until 1955. In 1955 Topps produced its first official major release of the set. Therefore even though the set was released in 1956 the production and printing occurred in 1955. Making the 2005 set it’s official 50 year anniversary edition. This type of off year copyright went on for most of the years produced until sometime in the 1990’s when production copyright dates began to match the same year the cards were produced and released. Not really complicated but can be a bit confusing if not familiar or aware. A simple search online about this is helpful as well.

How is this the 50th Anniversary set for Topps football when the set in 1996 was the 40th? That's only 9 years. Shouldn't the 2006 set be the 50th? I'm confused about this.
