I just picked up a complete set still factory sealed, (for $50. locally, but after checking ebay comps, the set sells for roughly $100.) Now I'm debating on whether to open it or leave it sealed as it also contains 10 gold cards, plus 3 black gold cards). I already have the base Jeter rc, and recently just sent it in to a new grading company called Next Level Grades ($15. to have graded by A.I. but mostly, I just wanted it protected better by being in a slab). However, the possibility of there being a gold Jeter in my sealed set..? I am not sure if I should open or leave it sealed. Keep in mind, I'm in my 50s and every card I own, will go to my grandson one day. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Well when the black gold set came out i was in elementary school. The gold cards were cool but black gold was too dope! I went absolutely nuts when i got one card in trade from my friend. Frank Thomas cost me so much when the Beckett listed it for almost $100. Nowadays the cards are worthless practically. All I have is memories and I love it!
This was the first set I got where I actually knew anything about cards. I put them straight into a binder in numerical order. I remember loving the Future Star series and the horizontal pics were a nice touch. Years later the Derek Jeter rookie became the big ticket card in the set - a guy i'd never even heard of in 1993.
The first "high end" Topps set coming out of the junk wax era. I like it!
