My first impression when I quickly flipped the base cards was that this was a magic/fantasy card set - so dark, black and brooding! I'm a great fan of borders, but the borders are very complex and intrude into the player photo. There is a lot to lool at here and distracts from finding the player name and logo. Even the photos on a sunny day seem dark as a result of the gun-metal heavy design. The card back is very black, colour coded on the bottom with the team colours. It's usually quite a feat to make a black backed card readable, but Topps have done a good job here with their usual decent information and stats. The subsets in the base set are interesting and relevant.
I liked the set after a while of warming up to, very large flagship set but the more i collected Topps 15, the more I got the feeling they really rushed that set out. The retail was terrible in my opinion consistently getting dud pack after dud pack, good luck getting an auto in retail. All in all, still solid and better than the previous years, plenty of autographs & hits
They kept copying and pasting the backs for each player in the set. Also the stock was VERY flimsy |
