  • According to Night Owl Cards blog, 43.7% (317 of 726) of the cards in this set feature someone with a mustache.
  • Wax packs were $0.20 for 12 cards.
  • "Topps All-Star Rookie" trophies were not included on the cards of the 1978 winners: Bill Nahorodny (C), Dave Revering (1B), Paul Molitor (2B), Bob Horner (3B), Ozzie Smith (SS), Bob Molinaro (OF), Hosken Powell (OF), Rick Bosetti (OF), Rich Gale (RHP), John Henry Johnson (LHP).
  • Backs of cards replaced the previous year's baseball game with a quiz entitled 'Baseball Dates'.
  • For the first time, rookie cards (now under the heading 'Prospects') were arranged alphabetically by each franchise's city - AL teams first, followed by NL teams.
  • Cards were released to the general public in the following formats:

    * 12-Card Wax Packs

    * 18-Card Cello Packs

    * 36 (12x3) Card Wax Grocery Rack

    * 39 (13x3) Card Rack Pack

    * 28-Card "Super" Cello Packs
  • The big rookie in this set is Ozzie Smith. Other notable rookies include: Carney Lansford, Bob Welch, Willie Wilson, Ron Oester, Bruce Bochy, Pedro Guerrero, Lonnie Smith and Terry Kennedy.
