1990 Select AFL Stickers

Trivia

  • Select started as a magazine company in 1983 in Sydney. The 1990 AFL Select Stickers would be their first of many AFL card and sticker releases.
  • The photo for sticker #79, Brendan McCormack, was taken at a media awards night the previous year. Brendan was awarded a media award, equivalent to the later named Rising Star Award. This photo was also used for his 1990 AFL Scanlens card (#65) but with a wider pan.
  • The photo for sticker #106, Brian Royal, was taken within moments of his photo for his 1989 Scanlens card (#86).
  • After swapping his Victorian State gurnsey for a South Australian one, Dermott Brereton's sticker (#2) sees him represented in an opposing team's gurnsey. Swapping gurnseys with opponents in major games like a State of Origin match or a Grand Final was common at the time.
  • Ross Glendinning's Brownlow Medal sticker (#129) features him wearing his West Coast Eagles gurnsey despite winning the medal for North Melbourne, in 1983. He played 190 matches for North Melbourne between 1978 and 1986 and 40 games for West Coast in 1987 and '88.
  • Robert DiPierdomenico (#148) is featured down the race after the 1988 Hawthorn Grand Final victory, his fourth.
  • Paul Feltham's image somehow made it past the sensors (#24).
