Notre Dame consensus All-American RCby sportsfan388 - 64 cards (Last updated on Nov 17, 2023) |

Some ND All-Americans don't have a regular RC issued at the time they played ... Greg Marx is one of them ... didn't do much in the NFL ... for whatever reason, many ND defensive lineman didn't make a big impact in the pros (Alan Page is one big exception). Nick Eddy has a 1969 Glendale stamp.
I found it interesting that some of them did not have cards issued while they played, I saw that there are some players that had a stamp listed, I'm not sure if I want to add the stamps, maybe once I add more of the cards on the list too my collection I'll add some more of the non traditional RC
You can add Mike Kadish, Wikipedia says he was All-American in 1971 and he has a regular Topps card. Funny story about him ... I have a paperback on the 1972 & 1973 Dolphins ... he was the Miami #1 draft pick in '72 ... outraged Shula by showing up to camp overweight ... one of the assistants tried to make excuses for him, including the fact that he just got married ... Shula bellowed, "Who did he marry, a refrigerator?!" Kadish ended up on IR or the tax squad, never played for Miami and was dealt to Buffalo in Aug. '73.

I must've missed him when I was adding cards to the list, that's a great story!
I forgot about Mike Fanning and he has a card. I remember a couple of star backs when I was growing up .... Al Hunter was the first ND back to go over 1,000 yards (1976), but was he an All-American? Tony Dorsett and Rickey Bell were the big college runners of 1976. Hunter has no cards at all in this site, even though he played four year with the Seahawks. He did not cover himself in glory with his disciplinary problems at ND. Jerome Heavens has a tribute card saying he was an "Honorable Mention" All-America ... does that count in your book?
So I looked up the website that I used to find the Notre Dame all-americans since it seems like I am missing quite a few. I was using sports-reference and after some investigation it seems like they just have consensus all-americans listed. I may update my list in the future to add other all-americans, I think for now though I am going to stick to the consensus all-americans.
Don't know if Jimmie Browner meets the test.
Oh, and Steve Sylvester played nine years with the Raiders and has no cards ,.,.,. is he All-American? Larry DiNardo was definitely All-American ... drafted by the Saints in 1971 and was cut by that lousy team ... went to law school after that, smart move. |
