GGGGRRRROWWLLLLLLLLL ...... somebody poked the bear.
The new Ottawa Senators SHOULD have its own TID ................ the new Winnipeg Jets SHOULD have its own TID !!! Will never convince me otherwise. I have no care in the old Senators and have no interest in the new Jets but there they are all linked togethor. How hard would it have been to put (1897 or whatever and 2005 or whatever) dates beside a team name to seperate them. Two completely different teams that happen to share a name. Nothing more. I shall go back into hiding. =)

Can a team PID somehow be linked to a Franchise ID of some sort. Or can we add a Franchise ID which could maybe be the original name and year of the franchise and maybe even be modified each time a franchise "officially" changes. This way a card of the early 80's Dale Hawerchuk would show the Wininpeg Jets, a card of Dustin Byfuglien would also show a team of Winnipeg Jets, but they would show two different Winnipeg Jets? Or maybe when a team moves that team PID could then add the birth and death year of the franchise in that city to the team name, as that would never change, something like Winnipeg Jets 1976-1995 (I know these aren't the right dates, just an example. This way someone could also collect by franchise, so someone may be inclined to have all the Phoenix Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets 1976-1995. Just a thought. Probably a dumb one, I should try to think through things before posting, lol!

Charlotte Hornets are a similar case to the Browns. NBA gave them the history and records of the first team.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Happens all the time with the Sonics/OKC Thunder, mainly with ESPN and the like. Technically, the Sonics retained their own history but no one seems to respect it and treat the Thunder like the new kid on the block like they are.

Thunder and Sonics are the same team with the same history. The Thunder CHOOSE to ignore their past pre-2008. When the NBA added the Championship tag to the back of the jerseys in 2013 (or was it 2014 now? I forget) the Sonics were the only team to have won a Championship and choose not to have their tag on the jersey. It was controversial at the time.
I just today created a chart to keep track of the team stats in my collection. I started with my NHL collection because I've scanned 1600 cards there, and over 50,000 for the NBA, and I wanted to make sure this would actually work before I jumped into my NBA collection. You can see how I broke out the Senators and Jets...and when I do make one of my NBA collection, I will do the same with the Hornets. Still in the process of creating the chart, but I'm only putting cards I've scanned onto it right now.
-------------------------------
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Cardboard History My COMC New Collection Website: Cardboard History Gallery (Still under construction) Tips on how to make your scans look like the card does in hand (No more washed out, fuzzy scans!):

Was it 2015 or 2016 when we had this same forum thread?
I do remember proposing some sort of a link on the team page to the other TIDs that would be related. I don't know if that ever filtered to Admin. But that would solve (partially solve) the Phila A's / KC A's / Oakland A's style dilemma. It does not address the Winnipeg Jets / Winnipeg Jets issue.
Separating out what is already there can be done (maybe tedious, but possible). Probblem lies in new issues. Especially with so many issues having old and new players. When "Winnipeg Jets" is in the Team field, which TID gets assigned? It could add even more work to the load that's already here.

I think the idea of changing the team name in the field to give it a date range once they move on might work in the cases of the Jets, it might cause a problem in the case of teh Oakland/Los Angeles/Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders.

And please remember, any solution that we come up with to propose to Admin must take into consideration all these variations. SO when thinking of a viable solution, keep that in mind. Thanks!

I would like to see the years after the teams, especially defunct or renamed franchises. For example:
Montreal Expos (1969-2004)

I can remembering reading the boxscores with my dad and the heading over the team bocscore from Washington was NATS as in YANKEES 12 NATS 1
ask dad why they called the NATS an he said because "like a GNAT a night, you just have swipe them out of your way and do what you are doing" Then he said they use to be called Nationals years ago.
PS I wake sleeping dogs

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards
