1992 Maxx (Black) Racing Forum

I noticed the 1992 Maxx Black set has been changed to "1992 Maxx 5th Anniversary".  My question is why isn't the Red set called this as well? The "5th Anniversary" is identical in size and font on both the Red and Black edition packaging..

I know Red and Black are not in the official names, but I don't see how the Black set is the 5th Anniversary set and the Red wouldn't be as well. It does not seem to be a differentiatior for someone who is just looking at a card or the packaging.

I've been fussing about this for years, Andy. But every time it gets fixed, someone like Billy Kingsley comes back in and changes it back to "5th Anniversary". Both the Red set and the Black set were 5th Anniversary sets. I've proved that multiple times with the packaging, but nobody cares about that. All the "Black" packaging is mine and they are identical to the "Red" packaging. I still have a sealed box of each and also have a complete card set of each product. Billy claims that "Red" and "Black" are Beckett terms. Neither is true and the packaging clearly shows that. I stopped bothering to care how it is listed about 3 years ago because it gets changed every time someone that has the ability to change it sees the title!!! The ONLY thing that differentiates the two sets is the color of the borders! There is no such thing as a "5th Anniversary" set because BOTH of them are the 5th Anniversary set. They NEED to be called "Red" and "Black" so collectors know which card they are adding to their collection when looking at the list. NONE of the cards say 5th Anniversary on them anywhere. I'm getting sick of this too. It's time to bring ADMIN in to lock the set titles so nobody can change then every couple of years.

Knowing that the Topps baseball sets never referred to themselves as a "40th Anniversary Edition" or "50th Anniversary Edition", etc., is it possible collectors looking for these cards will search for "maxx 5th anniversary" since that is what is on the packs and boxes? If so, maybe they should be listed as "Maxx 5th Anniversary Black" and "Maxx 5th Anniversary Red"? The other option would be to put them back to "Maxx Black" and "Maxx Red" and add a Release Note mentioning "5th Anniversary Edition", but Release Notes aren't searchable.

Ed, it's been listed every single way for both versions since I joined the site 7 years ago. But someone insists that ONLY the Black is 5th Anniversary and not the Red set. They are both exactly the same thing with different colored borders.

The 5th Anniversary name is what the black set is called on the packaging in large gold foil letters. The red bordered set is the standard Maxx set, the black bordered set is the special edition released for the 5th anniversary. 

The goal of this website used to be to do things accurately. The 5th anniversary name is accurate, calling it by the border color is not. That's all there is to it. 

I don't collect racing so maybe I can offer an outsider view. The packaging for both versions say 5th Anniversary all over them. I looked side-to-side some of the cards and there are no differences I saw outside of border color. but that's me.... I have been accused of being blind to the obvious before though

No? I'm like Jim here - I'm not a collector of these, so I'm having a difficult time understanding why these have different naming schemes. The sets look to be identical, just with different border colors. Packaging looks the same for both, except for the colors as well.

...Well, at least there won't be any made up numbers added to the name.

Or swap the colors to before the word edition 

Even though it likely wasn't the intention you have a retail and a hobby version sorta thing going on here.
