Does anyone know how many stickers would constitute a complete master set of the sticker inserts? Is it 160? It is implied through research that is the number; however have not been able to confirm. A master set would consist of every front and back variation.

Generally, TCDB does not keep track of "Master Set' numbers. The number for "Complete Set" is considered what you would need to collect to have one of each card "number" (ot "type", if unnumbered).
For example, 1979 Topps baseball set is considered complete at 726 cards, whether you have the Bump Wills Rangers or Blue Jays card, which is the number listed here. The Master Set would be 727 as a master set collector would want both Wills variations. That number is not reflected anywhere on this site (a good place for info like that would be the Trivia section for the set).

That's fine. It was more of a question for the community.

The Fleer Sticker Project lists the "master set" for the '77, '78, & '79 sticker inserts as 65; A helmet and logo sticker for each team with 9 cards having a blue border variation (except for the Seahawks which have two helmets and no logo sticker) I believe this only refers to the sticker on the front. Are there variations on the back or back/front combinations as well?
On a side note, I have a hard time understanding the checklist on TCDB. What does helmet 1, helmet 3, logo 1,....etc refer to. I understand that there are different variations...but isn't that what the VAR and note 2 field is for?

Checklist was probably copied from another source that doesn't have Note/Note2 features.

Yes, the 1978 & 1979 stickers have a puzzle on the back, so back variations exist as well. The Fleer Sticker Project hints that the 1979 sticker master set has 4 uncut sheets of 40 stickers each, but only has pictures of 3 of these. That's why I'm guessing the master set may be 160 stickers with all front and back variations.

As always, the Fleer Sticker Project is an interesting read. Great article on the uncut partial-sheets.
I would guess that your 160 number is correct. It's hard to be definitive without seeing the whole uncut sheet though. The missing partial sheet might show that some of the stickers repeat in the exact spot, making the front/back combination repeat on the full sheet. What are the odds of that happening though?

Exactly! I would say it is at most 160. I have about 110 of them. I thought about just getting the 65 for the complete set of fronts, but I think I will hold on to the other 50 just in case I run across more. Thanks all!!!

Yeah, I would have to check that out. Different colored borders lead cataloging to LOGO 1 LOGO 2 HELMET 1, and HELMET 2 etc. But you then have to account for the many different puzzle pieces. 160 is a possibility, My Master Set is buried at the moment, but I will check.
BTW: I have loads of dupes.

Awesome! I would be interested in your dups once you can confirm the total number for the master set. I think the Fleer football and baseball Grand Slam stickers are so cool! Thanks again!
