1998 Upper Deck Victory Circle Racing Forum

1998 Upper Deck Victory Circle (Racing) currently has an insert 'set' listed as "Jumbo".  Someone incorrectly posted this checklist with only one card, #A1 of Terry Labonte.  There are at least 5 cards in this set because I have #A5 of Ted Musgrave (link to old COMC listing).  If you know of any of the other cards in this set, please post here so we can complete the checklist properly.

Also, there are actually two sets.  The cards are identical except for the size.  One set is 3.5"x5", the other is 5"x7".  I have the Musgrave in both sizes.

If you have any direct knowlege of how these cards were released, please post that information as well.  I have been told that they were box toppers.  I originally thought the difference between the two sizes was a hobby vs. retail thing, but I've also heard that one size was in Wal-Mart boxes and the other was in K-Mart boxes, but I don't know which was which.

With knowing more than half the set, is is appropriate to put up checklists with "TBD" for the name for the two missing cards?  

Only if you've exhausted all avenues of research.

I would argue that is the case here, nothing else on ebay currently or completed that I can find, same for COMC.  These Jumbos on the Upper Deck Racing side are notoriously poorly documented, and are very rarely are seen for sale (other than 1995).

To all TCDB members here is my reply and data as I have it for all UD Boxtoppers related to 1997 and 1998.

First I got these checklists form a deceased master collector in Indiana.  Distriubution of products is very unknown to this day.  Most of the Boxtoppers were in Retail products (Walmart/Target/Kmart/etc.)  I will list what I know.

1997 UD Victory Circle (5x7) A1) Jeff Gordon, A2) Unknown-might have been DE SR and pulled from Production (have reason to believe could have been a match to card 3), A3) Bobby Labonte, A4) Ricky Rudd, A5) Sterling Marlin.  Have A1/A4/A5.  BOX was a retail box with 10 cards per pack and 10 packs per box.  Boxtopper unlisted on box - look below cardboard insert for box toppper - more a cardboard protector between packs and box topper.

1997 UD Victory Circle (5x7) B1) Bill Elliott, B2) Rusty Wallace, B3) Terry Labonte, B4) Kyle Petty, B5) Dale Jarrett. Have all 5 of them.

1998 UD Collector's Choice (5x7) A1) Rusty Wallace, A2) Bobby Labonte, A3) Jeff Burton, A4) Mark Martin, A5) Ricky Craven. Have A1/A5.  Retail box of 20 packs and 9 cards per pack.

1998 UD Collector's Choice (3.5x5) Note: Same checklist as 5x7. Have A3/A5.  These came on a large cardboard display 2 packs of 9 cards per pack and poly cover.

1998 UD Collectors Choice (5x7) B1) Dale Jarrett, B2) Ernie Irvan, B3) Jeremy Mayfield, B4) Kyle Petty, B5) Bill Elliott.  Have B5 only.  Note: NO 3.5x5 cards exist on the B checklist.
