1992 Traks Team Sets Racing Forum

I will propose my view on a longer discussion on 1992 Traks Prototypes - The Team Set ones I beileve are only 4 cards.  Because they are listed as 8 cards (alpha sort by driver name) and not listed by team set issue (8 sets of 25 and in the order of each 25 card set as issued) the analysis is a little bit off.  TCDB list all 8 as a prototype that could exist.  I propose that only the last 4 (25 card sets) cards 101-200 have a prototype card.  My evidence will consists in 3 parts:  1) The Traks Racing Machines only had 4 cards.  2) The prototype cards for the Team sets are listed as 4 cards in the Collectors World 1993 Edition as (Kodak, Western Auto, Raybestos, and STP) and are not the Team names associated with these cards in the TCDB. 3) The prototypes match cards in the set.  I have the Ernie Irvan prototype Team Set card (matches card 102 in set - Kodak).  You show in the TCDB 3 others Darrell Waltrip (matches card 127-Western Auto), Hut Stricklin (matches card 152-Raybestos), The King (matches card 200-STP).  Any other prototype that exists should match a card in the 200 card set.  I also have the King prototype.  I do not possess any other prototype cards from this set. Note: Bigger discussion their exists a variation on the Dale Earnhardt transporter prototype in the Traks Racing Machines set. A QVC issued prototype on the DE Transporter has in white letters across the top front of the card "Limited Edition".    It begs my imagination that these prototype cards are that hard to find.  Traks did not produce that small a number of prototype cards yet there exists 2 (waltrip/stricklin) I have yet to add to my collection.  iceiron5

I have never come across the Davey Allison protoype with all my searching that is listed in this database (no one has listed as found per db either). Were these cards only included only in the 25 cars team boxed sets? Any one know what interval they were inserted into the packs atleast for the ones found? Beckett doesnt make any mention of the prototypes in my book.

They were not issued in packs, they were prototypes, generally sent to card dealers to advertise the upcoming sets. Some of the prototypes can be exceptionally rare. 

After this many years (11) I am here to add a question / comment. Purtz has a copy of The King PROTO that is an AU with authentication sticker from International Race Products on back. Is this to be considered a seperate set, a parallel or something else?

There was a ton of discussion and research that went into that specific card a couple of years ago. I have no idea where the forum thread is now, but I believe this is the card you are talking about.

Been searching for several of these prototypes for quite some time.  I have yet to find a Stricklin.  I have many sealed and it appears some were inserted in either individually sealed pack or randomly inserted in four, five or six card sample packs. The four pack sets were 1992 Base cards.  The five card packs were 1992 Teams Set cards.  The six card packs have 2 x Petty, 2 x Teams Set and 2 x Base cards.  This may vary slightly as I am talking about the cards I have in my personal collection.  If anyone has as any sealed prototypes please see my want list or message me.
