Just saw a release notice on Topps.com for this 2023 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary Baseball set. Gotta laugh that they are releasing 2023 cards 5 months into the year, after several 2024 releases.
Anyway, I was checking the Orioles checklist when I saw an unfamiliar name Ben DeLuzio. I had to look him up to see if this was an error. It wasn’t. He was released by the Cubs in March of 2023, released by the Dodgers in May 2023 (after 25 minor league games) and released by the Orioles in July 2023 (after 18 minor league games). He hasn’t played a professional game in almost a year, never for the MLB Orioles, and somehow gets a card (actually 25 cards with all the parallels) in this set!?! Gotta love it.

My guess is that Ben DeLuzio either now works for Topps or has a relative that works for Topps.

I dunno who they're selling cards from still releasing 2023 sets to other than breakers. I don't buy 2023 product in the new baseball year unless they're discounted. I've moved on from 2023 stuff. It's just typical poor scheduling for Topps because they can't fit their 200 releases in one calendar year. And their player choices sometimes leaves folks scratching their heads. Or their butts, whichever they prefer.

2021 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary was the first year of this product and it's release was delayed by 9 months until June 29th, 2022 likely due to supply chain issues at the time. 2022 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary wasn't released until August 9th, 2023 with no explanation why it was so late. It seems that this product is always going to be released about half way through the next year for some reason.

It's absolutely absurd, I can't believe they do this, I plan on purchasing it. ![laugh laugh](https://www.tcdb.com/ckeditor46/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)

The "Anniversary" in the title refers the the anniversary of its original release date.

Yes, the Brand is Topps Chrome. The Platinum Anniversary refers to the 70th Anniversary, they use the 1954 card design.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Similar situation when looking at the Royals checklist. I saw an unfamiliar name, Bubba Thompson. Like Tscastle and Ben DeLuzio, I looked up Thompson. He played 37 games in 2023 for the Texas Rangers.
- August 2023 he was claimed off waivers by Kansas City. Played 33 games in AAA.
- October 2023 he was claimed off waivers by Cincinnati.
- January 4, 2024 claimed by New York (Yankees)
- January 24, 2024 claimed by Minnesota
- February 2024 claimed, once again, by Cincinnati and started the year in AAA. Currently on their major league roster.
Regardless, I will find the card and add it to my Royals collection.
Wishing Bubba all the best in his major league career with the Reds!
