I bought 2 hanger boxes today, in both, near the back of pack there was a group of 4 cards. All with clearly lighter backs than the others.
Either Topps collation is beyond horrible or these definitely aren't #/5. I spent way too much time trying to research this topic this morning. I can't find a answer based on marking or production codes.
Even worse would be we go back to the late eighties, early 90's of VAR due to different printers at different locations. Not sure I can handle that.

Those are not the flip stock. I've concluded this based on the texture reflection of both cards being equal. Neither are smooth like the normal front surface. The color differences on the backs is common for Heritage over the years. Some look dirty, some look bright, etc.

Thank you. Some folks on ebay are selling an awful lot of flipstock cards. Buyer beware.

Cardstock has a side with a smooth finish for printing the front of the cards and an unfinished side for the back of the card. Flipstock or Reverse Stock is where the cardstock is flipped/reversed. Back printed on the smooth finished side and front printed on the unfinished side.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Thanks for the replies. I never had backs of cards that were so different in person before from Heritage.
Also, there is a fair amount of discussion online about the amount of flipstock available. Since topps wants to use a PR instead of SN it opens the door for such speculation.
Thanks, Frank
P.s. I saw that there was a response deleted, I REALLY want to know what it said. I can only guess. For record I'm not naive enough to think I got 8 sssp cards of a hobby only release inserted into retail packs.

That's a great way to explain it!
I think this year's Heritage has more of a color variation on the back than I recall seeing in recent years. I ended up keeping the lighter shaded ones so I can read what's on the back of the card!

I haven't gotten any Heritage in hand yet, but I have watched a ton of breaks and the color difference in the back is very noticeable. It made me wonder if this was intentional as 1975 Topps does have some gray vs white back in the mail away team checklist cards. Perhaps this card stock (light vs dark) was intentional and not announced. It wouldn't be the first time Topps has done something like this. It could also be a homage to the Topps/O-Pee-Chee connection as O-Pee-Chee were printed on a lighter card stock. Or it could just be a natural variation in the card stock they used. Unless Topps actually confirms it we might never know.

The response that was deleted said something about Topps collation or something. There was profanity in it, which is not allowed here.
