2021-22 Panini Chronicles Basketball Forum

If there are 20 base set cards of a rookie (and they are not subset cards), they are ALL rookie cards.

It gets even more confusing: some of the cards are only available in certain packaging formats. Classics was a blaster exclusive if I remember correctly while others were hobby exclusive. 

I will be glad when panini loses the NBA license. They did a good job in 2012-13 but it's been getting worse every year since. (Although ideally the license would not be exclusive, I would be happier if they continued to produce cards alongside Topps)

I love Chronicles, but I do prefer the numbering in the other sports, where each style gets it's own small set.  The continuous set they always use in basketball can be frustrating, especially when so many types are exclusive to certain packaging. 

I'm the exact opposite way. The NASCAR set is each design starts over with #1 and I hate it. The NBA set is so much more interesting in being one large set, and at 20 cards the set is actually the second smallest set ever issued. It could be so much more.

Billy I would probably like it more if every type of card was available in all packaging.  I don't like the large  gaps when I put them in numerical order, because I didn't buy jumbo mini hobby nuclear sparkle packs, which are the only way to get cards 401-480

Yeah I'm not a fan of that part either. I think in the first Chronicles NBA set some of the base cards were SN to only 8 copies. 

Panini's disdain for set collectors is obvious. I'm not sure if they continued that in later sets.

Not sure if it's disdain or just ignorance. I doubt if there's a single Panini employee who's ever collected trading cards.
