So, I was adding my 1992-93 UD NBA cards on here and noticed that some have one hologram and others have a different one. I'm only 250 cards into the CL and have already found about 2 dozen with a different hologram. I have both versions of most of the ones I've found so far. The majority of my cards have the "UD Diamond" hologram (like 91-92 NBA and 1992 MLB), but the others have the "text" AND "Diamond" logos on them (like 1993-94 NBA and 1993 MLB).
Should this parallel be added too? I know it seems like overkill with these early-90's UD holograms, but at least it's only a period of a few years. This might be a Series 1 variation only. I just glanced through the rest of my cards and the last one that wasn't "text AND diamond" is card #308 with just the diamond logo. Everything after that has the dual logo and everything before that is mixed. This isn't a small sample either. I have nearly the entire set and a bunch of duplicates. ALL of the cards were pack-pulled, so a factory set variation isn't the answer.

This is a great start. Now we are on alert to see just what the extent of the "text" variant hologram population is. Once we have it hammered out, since we've added the others, and they're kosher, we can add these as well.

So the parallel version will be the '92 Diamond Logo (1-310). On COMC, #309 and #310 have both holograms. Series 1 (Low Series) ends at card #310 and Series 2 (High Series) picks up at card #311. Also note, Low series cards were available in High series packs.
I don't think the Shaq 1b card is available in the parallel. 24 pages on COMC, all have the Text and Diamond Logo hologram.

It sounds to me like the Series 1 release was printed with one hologram, then the Series 2 release (containing Low & High Series cards) was printed with the other hologram, creating the variation in the "Low Series" cards.
If I'm reading the listing correctly, card #1b was not pack-inserted. If that is true, then I would not expect it to have such a variation. I'd even go so far as to say that card #1a should be a single card insert set, and 1b is a one card mail-in set. Based on responses I got to a recent inquiry about a similar card, it would seem that the card #1a Stamped version should not be listed.
Although I don't collect stick & ball sports, I've been paying close attention to these Hologram discussions. There is a similar variation in 1996 UD Road to the Cup (Racing) that I want to list correctly. These threads are helping a lot.

That makes perfect sense. I forgot that S1 cards were also available in S2 packs. So that means that cards 2-310 should have both versions. The text/diamond hologram would be the 2nd printing of the Series 1 cards.
My Shaq #1 has the text/diamond hologram on it. Those were the SP in Series 2, while 1a was Series 1 only and 1b was the mail-in card. 1a should only have the diamond logo and 1 and 1b should only have the text/diamond hologram.

While I'm not touching this with a 10 foot pole(holo var), keep in mind 32a and 33a, Magic and Bird appeared only in low series packs. 32, and 33, Doug Christie, and Jim Jackson were in the hi series.
I don't think the punched 1a should be removed, nor do I think the various cards of Shaq should be placed as inserts away from the regular set. These were all common enough at the time of their release, even when Shaq mania was in full swing. Just my 2 cents.

Great reply! I knew about those also (32/33 cards) and had a & b of both at some point. I don't have all of those now, but I think I still have 1 or 2 of them.
I agree that none of the versions of the #1 card should be removed from the original CL. IF there was going to be a change to the CL, the only one that would make any sense is moving card #1b as a Mail-In Insert. The card is clearly marked as 1b on the back, so anyone searching for it would still find it. It wasn't possible to pull that card from a pack. As for the punched Draft card of 1a, it should stay there with the un-punched card. Otherwise, a bunch of people will not know there are two different cards, even though they aren't really different. I had one of each until I traded them and the person who got the punched card was actually looking for that one and not the un-redeemed one. It worked out for me and both of the traders that got those TRADE cards, but only b/c everyone involved knew what they had and/or were looking to get.

Good points Spaz, if anyone is willing to post a checklist, I'll help by creating IR's for moving images over. I wonder if they ran out of the '92 Diamond Logo holograms before Series 2 was released. I'm seeing at least 15-20 copies of 32A Magic Johnson and 33A Larry Bird with the Text and Diamond Logo holograms for sale on COMC.

Are we sure that Magic and Bird were only 1st Series cards? I remember now that the 1992-93 Skybox Draft Picks inserts for Christie and Jackson were actually released in the 1993-94 Skybox product. Both held out on signing their contracts and that's why their cards weren't released in the 92-93 products right after they got drafted. Maybe the same happened with their UD cards and that could have led to Magic and Bird replacing them in the 92-93 UD set. I, personally, think that 32a and 33a were issued in both series' of packs.
I don't have any proof of those though. I apparently have no Larry Bird cards left and I don't have the Magic Johnson 32a card anymore. I think I traded that one a few years ago.

Hi,
I know this is an old thread, but what became of this? I have pulled both holograms for #251 Loy Vaught.
Will a variation set be listed? Or part of the master set?
Many thanks
