So 2018 is the first year I bought Gold Label. I didn't know much about it and honesntly I don't get too excited about framed, metal, chrome cards. I am a product of the 70's and prefer good old fashioned cardboard cards.
However, after picking up a box, the card style immediately impressed. I also liked the limited number of players(100) in the set, so you aren't sorting through a pack or stack saying "who is this and why does he have a baseball card".
I also like the 1-2-3 Class approach as well. I would perfer to see a different image of a nice looking card then a purple version of the same card that you find in most other sets. Here is where the demystifcation comes.....when opening my 2nd box I thought I got duplicates of 3 players. There are only 33 cards in a box(7 packs i think...) so I was a bit put off my this and sent Topps a complaint. I did hear back and they do not replace or compensate for "duplicates". Today as I was looking into the set a bit more I noticed that in addition to the 3 Classes of cards there Black, Blue and Red and Gold parallels. See below. I did get a couple Blue parallels and they stand out as the entire card is blue in color. No Red and unfortunately no Gold. What I then realized is I hadn't really looked for the Black parallels in Class 1....and guess what, the duplicates I thought I got in the same box were actually black parallels. So, still not ideal...getting the same card in the same box....but at least it was something different and not a duplicate.
Black - no SN regardless of Class
Blue - Class 1(/150) Class 2(/99) Class 3(/50)
Red - Class 1(/75) Class 2(/50) Class 3(/25)
Gold - all Class 1/1 $$$$$
Boxes are not too expensive on ebay, I wouldn't pay more than $60 including shipping for one and after opening 2 boxes and having a friend open another one for me(ask me if you want this story) I am hooked and have 3 more boxes coming and can't wait to open them.
Hope this helps any of you who have picked up this set and didn't really research it as I.....
Trading 2016 - 2018 cards right now if you want to have a look at my FS/T list. **I do not have access to anything before 2016**
Thanks!
