1991 Topps Baseball Forum

Hello,

Just acquired a very large lot of 1991 Topps, some sealesd wax boxes and some loose.  Among the loose cards were 197 of the Robin Ventura card (#461).  All of them but 10 are "dark backs" (40th anniversary logo in red much more prominent on the back of the card) and all 197 are the error version of the black border (not red) on the left hand side.

I know this error was corrected.  Any guess as to how many are out there, error vs. corrected percentage wise?  Also, are "dark backs" more rare in general or not? Are certain cards (like Ventura) more likely to have dark backs than others?

From what I have seen over the years, there are an absolute ton of both options available.  My guess is that the large lot of cards you got was mostly from the earlier print runs.  There is little to no value difference between the two.

A 3rd version exists with the left inset border having red printed over the gray. Very obvious when all three are together. Less of this version than the other two.
