Are we going to start listing nonexistent and non-licensed star co cards now?
They have been popping up the past week, including yet another listing for the Miller Lite set under 1986-87.
Plus, I've never seen a "Blue Border" All-Rookie Set. A checklist hasn't been added yet thankfully, but is this allowed???

That is on me. I've been trying to find all the counterfeit sets that the Star owner printed in the 1990s, back dated to the 1980s and sold on the Shop at Home TV network. It is a murky area and others have piggy backed on and created imaginary new sets since then.
Documenting Star basketball isn't like Topps baseball. It's more like looking for a shipwreck than going to the mall.
As for unlicensed sets, this database is full of them. I may have gotten some sets wrong and don't object to it being deleted if I did,

Some Star Co items are legitimate and unlicensed. Some are flat out counterfeits (or an attempt at deceitfulness).
We did issue some basketball sets in 1993 (the year I left Star) that did not have NBA licensing. The backs will not have the NBA logo. Also, the logos on the uniforms will be obscured or airbrushed off.
Also, just for the record, the owner did not go back and print more 1980s stuff. There was just a lot of leftovers sitting in the warehouse. There seems to be a common misconception that he reprinted the 1980s stuff. Just wanted to clear that up.

Can't say for sure, but I've been thinking those HSC Star sets are a myth. It doesn't help with all these "customs" floating around on eBay, like the Trailblazers "error" and the various other Michael Jordan McDonalds/Tarheels bootlegs.
Also spotted where someone went to a lot of trouble to upload a whole list of those Future-stock customs on here recently.
I'm guilty of collecting some of that type stuff myself, such as Living Legends, and Broder type cards, from the late '80s/early '90s. But these current customs could prove to be problem at some point.

I'm not talking about reprints. The Star owner printed new Star sets that never were made and back dated them to the 80s. He got busted. They should be documented as counterfeit and unlicensed so collectors know exactly what they are before they obtain them. They are rare but is a counterfeit ever truly valuable?
I think that there should be an Unlicensed/Counterfeit category for sets instead of calling them oddball or Broder.

Seems adding these to the database would not only legitimize reprints/unauthorized cards from unknown sources, but cause confusion to folks looking to this site as a reference source.
This looks like it will become a major issue to deal with considering all the fake jordans/sets being made.
Funny you posted the Steve Taft article, I just talked to him last week and the topic of Star Co came up. That guy knows basketball cards.

Great reads, been a while but I had read that interview with Steve Taft before.
Like to see what the HSC cards looked like.

Set the dropdown to Baseball and type in the word Broder and you will see just how much this site chronicles unlicensed cards. There is even a homemade category in case you and the kids want to make cards and put them on here.
Burbank has some Shop at Home cards up on Ebay if your collection needs some Star counterfeits that are probably real based on the seller:
