I purchased the red, white, and blue boxed set because I knew the inserts were different. One set (numbers only) is a sticker; the other set (letter+number) is a card. I thought that this was the only difference between the boxed sets. I thought the 88 base cards were the same.
However, when I opened them, I could immediately feel the difference between the cards. The cards from the red, white, and blue boxed set are stiffer than the cards in the blue boxed set. Plus, there is definately a color difference between the card backs.
So...different packaging (obvious), difference in the "sticker" cards (obvious), different cards (?).....does this mean a different set?
I'm not trying to stir up a VAR/Parrallel set debate but I don't know what to do with this set. The "sticker cards" are definately different and I was going to list them as an insert set to the "Glossy" checklist already listed on TCDB. Now I don't know if they should go there or if the red, white, and blue boxed set should be listed separately.
On a different but related note....i just bought several unopened boxes of the base set (all three series). I think I have 3 or 4 complete sets now. I'll be adding all doubles to my trade list.
My two-cents is worth slightly more than a penny.
