Tough one for Phils fans today. He was just honored in the Phils Wall of Fame a few months ago and would've learned his Cooperstown fate this week

I thought the Golden Era and Early Baseball Committees pushed their announcement until next year?
Either way, bad year for the sport; Richie belongs in.

They did. It would've been yesterday or sometime this week before COVID postponed it

Interesting trivia: I believe his 1971 Topps card was the first baseball card to feature a player with moustache in 60 years.

Which makes them recycling a clean shaven photo with Allen facing away from the camera in profile from the 1965ish photo shoot for the 1970 and 1972 card to reflect him moving on to teams that wore red caps at the time (Cardinals and White Sox) even more hilarious!

RIP Dick Allen. Dick spent one season, 1971, as a Dodger. It's truly a shame that he wasn't able to see Hall of Fame recognition during his lifetime. He is deserving of it.

Tough hitter in real life and also in my Cadco Disc spinner baseball game. Most lasting memory is of him in his White Sox uniform on the cover of Sports Illustrated in the dugout smoking a cigarette. I think I have that issue somewhere.

Being in an NL city in my formative, pre-ESPN years, I didn't see much of him. But I remember my Dad saying he was one of the best hitters there was, and that was (and is) good enough for me.
