Nate Colbert Forum

To me, Mr. Colbert is remembered mainly for two things: 1. He once hit five homers in one day, with 13 RBI and 22 TB -- all records; 2. For reasons I could not possibly explain today, as a child I named a stuffed cow after him--Colbert.

I had never heard of him until today. It's kind of hard to believe that nobody on the Padres has broken his home run record in the past 40 years or so. Thanks for sharing. May he rest in peace.

One of the first MLB Names that I remember from my growing baseball interest in the early 1970's!  He was also on One of my first few SLURPEE Cups that I so vividly remember, growing up in South Florida!!  Now may He RIP indeed and His Family be comforted . . .

Nate is one of two players ever to hit five home runs in a doubleheader; the other being Stan Musial. He put in solid seasons for a struggling new franchise, but gave San Diego fans hope. RIP

I consider myself a pretty big fan of baseball, and I have to admit that I haven't heard of him before today.  Keep in mind I began following baseball in the 90s.  Always something new to learn in the long history of the sport.  RIP.

Seems a testament to how the Padres don't hang on to sluggers.  They are all traded or lost to free agency.  I looked over their all-time leaders lists and was surprised to see that Dave Winfield was still in the #2 slot behind Tony Gwynn in so many categories, despite playing their about 6.5 years in the 1970s.  If Machado stays put (and healthy), he will likely jump up those lists very quickly.
